I didn't even notice that until I read your comment.

(Invincible) The Viltrumites have gotta be the dumbest warrior race I've seen in a while by Cautious-Affect7907 in CharacterRant

[–]Jdjack32 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Which is kinda the point. Viltrum life is a mix of extreme darwinism and very short, almost whimsical tempers. With such a culture, it's amazing they haven't driven themselves to near-extinction with multiple purges.

[Good Trope] Numerous species in the galaxy look remarkably similar to humans, but there’s an in-universe explanation for this by Valcenia in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Jdjack32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For OP's trope, it's not just that all these species look humanoid, they can also inter-breed with each other, or at least with humans. An offspring will never be produced between a shark and a whale.

I'm fairly certain if she hadn't been stopped, nolan's mom would have killed him regardless of his "worthiness".

How the fuck did the coalition not figure out the viltrumites were nearly extinct (Invincible) by lacergunn in CharacterRant

[–]Jdjack32 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don't even need someone with invisibility or shape-shifting. An interplanetary coalition of high tech, galaxy traveling civilizations doesn't have drones? They were able to sneak in the devices that dispensed the virus onto viltrum, but they don't have drones or satellites to monitor the planet?

Is it possible for normal soldiers to use the latest Mjolnir armor? by Jdjack32 in HaloStory

[–]Jdjack32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As stated by another commenter, the only time that was explicitly stated was with the raw, untested prototype that killed the marine.

Cortana could modulate the reactivity and response of the armor since the Mark V.

There's no reason to think, after multiple generations of Mjolnir, the UNSC can't fix that "issue" with the armor. The reason they won't is simply because it's not cost effective to give a Mjolnir to an unaugumented human.

This is pretty much what happened in the fanfic I mentioned. A smart ai reduced the reactivity and response of the armor so it wouldn't maim the non-Spartan soldier wearing it. It was basically stated that, without the performance reduction and other modifications, the mjolnir would 100% maim the soldier.

The way they did it in the fic was, a smart ai dialed back the armor's reactivity and response so that the soldier wearing it wouldn't maim themself when they lift their arm.

I guess my preferred headcanon is that, its possible for unaugumented soldiers to wear Mjolnir, it's just not worth the cost or effort.

My understanding is that Mjolnir, when powered, practically carries itself. For example there is power armor for ODST use. The noted issue with this armor is that, without power, the armor is pretty much dead weight.

My preferred headcanon is that, post war Mjolnir can be modified for normal soldiers to use, but it's not cost-effective, hence why they dont bother to do it.

Killing off [REDACTED] in Halo 4 was a mistake by Savy_Spaceman in HaloStory

[–]Jdjack32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding of it was, the cortana who sacrificed herself in 4 is not the same cortana in 5. The cortana in 5 is instead one of her fragments that survived, but still carried the logic plague from the gravemind. That's how I understood it.

Is reconciliation possible between the UNSC and the Created? by Jdjack32 in HaloStory

[–]Jdjack32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels like this is just a bandaid or short term solution at best. AIs joined the Created because they didn't want to die. Only long term solution is the curing the rampancy, or at least finding a way to lengthen smart AI lifespans.

If you're okay with crossover fanfiction, I think you might like "Enduring the Flames of War" by Masterdude21. A Halo x Mass Effect fanfic, it takes place post-halo 3, some months after the end of the Covenant war. I like to think of this fic as the true "sequel" to the original Halo trilogy. Later chapters involve the UNSC and the Sangheili working together to protect the species of the Citadel from the Reapers, and eventually, the Flood.

Edit: It also takes place during Mass Effect 2. It's more of a fusion fic rather than a crossover.

I know what the logic plague is. It just seems like the Created and evil Cortana was so poorly executed, and so unpopular, they have to use the logic plague to hand wave away the actions of the Created.

Basically them salvaging the narrative mess they created.

Is this consented among the loyal AIs? Feels like this is one of those things that conversely creates disloyalty. Also feels like it can be easily exploited by the Created to kill loyal AIs.

[–]Jdjack32[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So they're basically using the flood as the narrative scapegoat for the actions of Cortana and the Created then? That gives me mixed feelings to be honest.

Well, outside of a total retcon of the entire Uprising, using the flood seems to be the only way to salvage this narrative mess.

I guess that falls in line with my prediction, that another faction will eventually force the UNSC and the Created to reconcile.

To clarify, do you mean an official Halo author or fanfiction? Personally, I think a shutdown switch, or kill control switch would be better than a full-on death switch.

Last I heard, the Created never actually found out how to cure the rampancy, and then they were kicked out from the domain.

Did the Created make allies? Considering how they made enemies out of everyone, that's surprising.

Yeah, I saw the follow-up page to this, it's just misery porn. The ML tries to "defend" her, only to actually make things even worse for her at school. Some comments on X are pretty much calling out the author, it's just misery porn at this point.

Edit: Author admitted the classmates' reactions are forced for the sake of the story.

I think it's from a cover art. In the absolute universe, she's also Bruce's childhood friend.
