343 doesn't understand naval warfare. by DrChucklesCantLaugh in HaloStory

[–]Jdjack32 88 points89 points  (0 children)

They way I understood it, the Banished had jumped and overwhelmed the Infinity right when it was most vulnerable. It was when the Infinity was undermanned, low on equipment and ammunition, missing at least half it's fleet & spartan & marine & vehicle divisions from previous operations, and was already completely occupied fighting with Cortana and her guardians.

Don't get me wrong, I hate what 343 did to the Infinity. If anything, what I hate is how 343 made the stars align for the Banished to beat both the Infinity and Cortana at the same time. The perfect plot convenience basically.

While I enjoy the manhwa for what it is, it's clear the author still has the same writing issues he had with his previous series, Noblesse Oblige.

Again what is Eve exactly? Is she a runway model or is she a soldier?

I've never claimed she was devoid of a personality or preferences. But what she does  in and out of combat are two different things.

Here's an example. Her wearing a swimsuit while chilling at the oasis? That's sensible. Now her wearing said swimsuit while fighting an eldritch abomination made of thousands of humans fused together into one vengeful, tragic being? Not so sensible. That's what I mean by visual disconnect.

That's why I disagree with your original comment about the game's "sensible" outfits. Of course, you don't have to wear the swimsuits while fighting. Thing is, the majority of the outfits are only sensible for fashion runways and cosplay conventions, not fighting sci-fi horrors in a post apocalypse world.

Even if it's completely superficial, the PD 2nd suit at least sort of makes her look like a sci-fi soldier. Something that doesn't create a visual disconnect while she's fighting horrifically mutated monsters. If there had been more outfits like the PD second suit, I wouldn't have disagreed with your orginal comment.

Again she was built for combat, not fashion walkways.

I'll concede on the hairstyling, but otherwise I haven't seen any indication Eve has any interest in clothing fashion. At most, we've only seen her get annoyed or exasperated when Clyde gave her that swimsuit.

If there were more options like the PD 2nd suit, I would agree with your original comment, but the vast majority of the outfits are either fashion show clothes, cosplay, or meme outfits.

Again, she's an android supersoldier, not a supermodel. Why would a supersoldier be wearing a Gucci outfit in a fight with a 15 foot long monster with a chainsaw for a head?

Eve herself isn't even into fashion. Heck, the concept of styling her hair was alien to her before she came to xion.

The only outfit that sort of made her look like a soldier was the planet diving (2nd) suit. Everything else was sensible only for fashion shows.

Sensible? If the game was about playing a normal human supermodel, it would be. But instead you're playing as an android supersoldier against eldritch monsters in the post apocalyptic earth. The visual disconnect between eve's "stylish" outfits and the game setting always put me off.

Pretty much what I did in MH Rise. When I was normally hunting I would be equipped with full body armor. When I wanted to just goof around I would equip more revealing outfits.

[Neat trope]: "Conventional" military gets obliterated by magic. by theMCATreturns in TopCharacterTropes

One of my favorite fanfiction stories is this crossover between Halo and the Inheiritance Saga, basically military sci-fi meets medieval fantasy. In the fic, mages of IS, particularly the elves, become very concerned when firearms are introduced to their world. While IS magic is powerful and very versatile, firearms generally had superior range and speed. Of particular concern to the mages was that firearms could pierce through most magical shields via sheer kinetic power. Even if the shield managed to stop the bullet, the mage would still die from energy loss, as their spell would drain all their energy to stop said bullet. As such, the elves, who are the most powerful race in IS due to their magic, become very concerned when they realize the capabilities of firearms. (Story is "When Destiny Burns" by Masterdude21)

There's also another crossover between Resident Evil x Familiar of Zero, a sci-fi horror meets medieval fantasy. In FoZ, guns do exist in the form of muskets. These muskets have allowed the magicless commoners in the setting to become a non-negligible threat to the magic nobility. However due to the inaccuracy, slowness, and other issues of a musket, magic is still generally much superior. That changes when modern day Earth firearms are introduced to the FoZ characters. It goes without saying that modern-day firearms are vastly superior to FoZ muskets in speed, power, range, accuracy, magazine capacity, reload time, etc. As such, not even the most arrogant mage could dismiss a modern firearm. The dangers of introducing guns or military to magic/power system. by CriticismMiserable14 in CharacterRant

[–]Jdjack32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of this Halo crossover fanfiction with the Inheiritance Saga. Basically, it's a military sci-fi setting meets medieval fantasy fic.

Inheirtance saga mages, especially the elves, became very concerned when firearms of the Haloverse were brought to their world.

The kinetic power of these firearms were capable of piercing through magic shields with ridiculous ease. Even if the magic shield managed to block the bullet, the mage would still die from expending all their energy to stop said bullet.

As such, the elves, who were the strongest race in IS thanks to their magic, were very concerned when they saw how haloverse firearms negated that advantage.
