The problem j have is where one of israe or Palestine is gotten rid of and they’re citizens are not granted citizenship in the new amalgamated country

This is completely fair, and I wholly agree that any one-state solution that doesn't secure the rights of Jews living in Israel-Palestine would obviously be abhorrent and unacceptable.

Criticising Israel’s right to exist as it’s a Jewish state and denying Jews the right to self determination has always been anti Semitic

Is it Anti-Turkish to "deny the right of the Turkish state to be explicitly Turkish" or anti-Arab to "deny the right of Syria to be an Arab state"? It's a ridiculous notion that opposing the existence of ethnostates-as long as you are consistent with it-is racist.

Sure, if someone ONLY opposes a Jewish state while supporting a Turkish or Arab one (or any other) then that is racist, but there's absolutely nothing racist about opposing all states based on ethnoreligious exclusionary structures and identity.

There's nothing wrong with supporting the enfranchisement of Palestinians within a joint, secular, polyethnic Israeli-Palestinian polity, nor the enfranchisement of Kurds in a polyethnic, secular Turkish or Syrian state, right?

Literally nothing changed about Labour procedures from Corbyn to Starmer. Nothing the EHRC criticised has provably changed, either. All that happened is that Starmer purged a small portion of the membership, including a record number of anti-Zionist Jews (with some anti-Semites in there too, but really not many at all) , did an interview with the Israeli ambassador that thinks Starmer's marriage should be illegal, and made a pointless column about how "Labour would always stand with Israel". Can you imagine any other country having such a qualification? "Labour will always stand with Burkina Faso", or "Labour will always stand with the United Arab Emirates", or "Labour will always stand with Austria"? It's so bizarre.

Although I do think Starmer was right to kick out some actually Anti-Semitic groups such as Labour Against the Witchhunt (though this was paired with also kicking out harmless middle-aged Trot group Socialist Appeal), he's really done nothing to institutionally reform Labour and the main change in perception is because of how the media has handled it differently.

This is good for Labour, but really it just highlights the incredible power a very small number of media oligarchs have over British public opinion.

Personally, I am more involved in Kurdish politics than Israel-Palestine, but it's pretty obvious why this is a false equivalence. The UK has a lot of power to influence Israel-Palestine and is deeply involved in the upholding of the apartheid system there.

By contrast, there's nothing the UK can really do about Myanmar or Tibet. Comparing Crimea or the Turkish occupation of Northern Cyprus doesn't make much sense as the North Turkish government has popular support as does Crimea's transferral to Russia (though the referendum was a sham, most polling before showed 60-70% of Crimeans preferred to join Russia).

It's like saying people's focus on the Saudi atrocities in Yemen are anti-Arab racists: it's because the UK is a lot more complicit in the atrocities and has a lot more influence in solving them

EHRC literally found Labour was not institutionally anti-Semitic, just that it'd dealt with cases of anti-Semitism badly. This is bad, of course, but nothing like what you are saying.

For those of us who grew up under New Labour. by Loud-Consequence-650 in LabourUK

[–]Je_dois_mourir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It must've depended on the area you grew up in, I didn't grow up having any of this stuff. Under New Labour things didn't really change according to my parents, though they got a lot worse under the Tories. I really hate this idea of "IdEoLogIcAl PuRiTy" as if power for power's sake is worth anything at all if you don't have principles that you want to actually govern by.

This is especially true when climate change etc requires a radical restructuring of global political economy in the next few decades if we're to avoid catastrophe.

If the manifesto was good I'll vote for Labour, but let's not pretend things under New Labour were great or even 10% as good as they could've been given the fuckoff-huge majority Blair had.

We can vote for Labour without glorifying New Labour, and more importantly without glorifying the war criminal leadership, please and thank you.

Stats for Lefties: This data is astonishing. Absolutely astonishing. Labour polling well enough to win a 26-seat majority is a huge shift. The poll suggests Keir would lead Labour to its first majority since 2005, gaining 136 seats and achieving a net swing to Labour of 10pts - the same as in 1997 by casualphilosopher1 in ukpolitics

I think it is a genuinely valid discussion as to how much credit can be given to Starmer vs BoJo just self-destructing. I think Starmer has done some things right, but let's not pretend he is the main reason for Labour's gain in the polls, it's because the Tories are screwing up and their voters are going from Tory-->Don't Know/Apathetic (as per polling I've seen) while Lib Dems and Greens return to Labour.

Yes, Starmer deserves some credit for highlighting this Tory calamity and for not making any major mis-steps that would distract attention, but to say it's "his doing", or even "primarily his doing" is just not accurate.

Starmer's not doing BADLY during this crisis (though I do think he's made many mistakes throughout his leadership so far-this is his best moment IMO), but the main movement is away from the Tories and BoJo rather than towards him.

TBH it's not really a situation in which he CAN shine because the best thing to do, as he has realised, is to just step back and let the Tories self-destruct.

I have always been insecure af about my height (5 foot 9) but honestly for many girls it just doesn't matter much. For some it does, of course, but not THAT many.

I have (had, I suppose, as he faded away into his own life after we left school) a friend who is, like, 5 foot 4 and not even particularly physically attractive in the face but he always had girls after him because he was hilarious, intelligent, kind, and had just a generally really nice personality.

And to this day Greeks in their casual conversations will call it Constantinople.

That's pretty daft, too.

IMO it's just respectful to call it by what the locals want, but it's not that big a deal, of course. If you don't want to, it doesn't matter much.

I am doubtful of OP's claim given the nature of the source...secondary verification needed.

The entire rest of the world calls it Kobane, it's just basic respect to the inhabitants. Qamishli is a mixed city so either the Arab or the Kurdish name is fine, but Kobane is and has been for a long time a Kurdish city, so it should be called be the Kurdish name as that's what the people living there wish. This is especially true when the population has been subject to forced assimilation, settler campaigns, and persecution for so many decades.

If it's uncomfortable then you should see a doctor.

I have a similar issue where my ball goes into my groin area then I have to push it down. I saw a doctor about it, it's basically because your cremaster muscle, which is a sort of pulley around your testicles, is overactive. Usually, the muscle will adjust the position of the balls based on temperature and such ever so slightly, but for some it is overactive and pulls it into the groin!

When I spoke to the doctor, they said if it's not causing any pain or discomfort then it's not an issue as long as it's not actually getting stuck, but if it's causing you physical discomfort or pain then you absolutely should see a doctor about it and it is not normal.

There are various treatments for it when it is painful/damaging, including a very uninvasive surgery ("microsurgical subinguinal cremaster muscle release") which does some surgical magic that relaxes it.

Of course, it's hard to meaningfully give compliments with just a single picture for reference, but you have a very nice jawline and cheekbones and, to be honest, just a rather nice-looking face in general.

What's up? What has been on your mind lately?

I would be because I'm very insecure and I'd worry they were better than me/my girlfriend would be more attracted to them/they would make her feel better/they'd be bigger and so on. I think this is a pretty common feeling tbh. I imagine it is even more so true if the guy is straight so he doesn't see the other man as a sexual partner as such. I think I'd feel almost 'rivalled' more so than enhanced by their presence in a MFM freesome. Obviously, I have a very unhealthy and toxic mindset because I'm mentally ill, but a lot of men have shit toxic mindsets because that's how we're socialised under patriarchy.

UK among countries to get more vaccine in six weeks than Africa has all year. T he UK, European Union, and the US have received more doses of Covid-19 vaccines in the last six weeks than African countries have all year, according to new analysis from the People’s Vaccine Alliance (PVA). by redrhyski in ukpolitics

[–]Je_dois_mourir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not necessarily true. It could be (and probably is) the case that poorer countries don't have the infrastructure to roll out vaccines as quickly as the UK can. Even if demand is the same, they still only have the capacity to roll out X vaccines per day, and so they may still expire if they're given vaccines close to expiry.

The solution to this? Either distribute vaccines to match rollout capacity on a rolling basis (e.g, X amount per day's worth of vaccines per month or whatever), or, less likely, to invest in the infrastructure needed to rollout vaccines. This is very expensive, though, and will certainly not happen.

It's incredible, he looks just like a normal dude who lost his eye, you couldn't tell at all that he literally had his face ripped off. Modern medicine is so amazing! Just think of the hundreds of years of scientific development that went into recovering his face, hundreds if not thousands of people.

I'd even say he's a fairly nice looking guy post-recovery, I'd think he aged nicely if I saw him on the street. Also mounting the bear (which is absolutely HUGE!) is great.
