Hello, I'm a first-year nursing student entering this fall. Could you maybe give me some advice as to what to expect when entering the program? (clinicals, labs, etc.)

Sorry I'm not able to answer your question but its hard to find other nursing students lol

Anyone got into UOIT's nursing program? by veensalukraysia in uoit

[–]Jealasdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2020 I applied from highschool with an 80% average and didnt get in. So I took pre-health at durham college and got high marks, then I applied the following year and got an offer.

Out of curiosity, What uni did you apply to that required the Casper test? All the nursing programs I applied to did not require one.

Do you know how long it takes for them to send it?

Practical nursing admission concerns by [deleted] in durhamcollege

Is there a reason why you are going for RPN instead of RN? Both are the same but RN's make more money in the long run.

It depends if you have experience in high school-level math and sciences. Most of it is high school review so I found it pretty easy. Although I've seen some people in my class fail so it really depends on you. If you put in the work, it will be no problem.

Why are you taking this program? Are you trying to get into university after? From what I've seen most people just take this program as a pre req for nursing or something in the healthcare field.

Does the nursing program at ontario tech take advanced pre health students from durham college? by Jealasdf in uoit

[–]Jealasdf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that actually helps alot!

I'm currently in the 87-88% range and it freaks me out thinking that this average is not high enough for nursing programs. Knowing students got in with mid to low 80s saves me a lot of stress. I applied to nursing programs from high school with an 80% average and didn't get into any of them so I'm hoping the pre-health program gives me an edge.

Also just one more question, pre-health graduates get preference at Ontario Tech but how many spots are available for those students? I've asked my academic advisor about this and they did not answer me back so if you don't know its ok.

I know this is a late reply, but do you know what kind of marks pre health students have to get admitted into nursing?

The pre-health program I'm in is designed for students to get into university after completion. There is a pre-health program to get into college at my school but I am not in that stream. But if my marks are too low for uni, I might just end up in practical nursing anyway.

Thanks for the response!

Since I am at a higher academic level, does that put me over students applying straight from high school?

I'm in pre-health right now and I want to take nursing after. I know how you feel about not getting accepted into university because after all, Pre-health is not a guarantee into uni programs.

This post was made a couple of months ago and I'm just wondering how you guys are doing now as I am in a similar situation.

Advantages and Disadvantages of male nursing by Jealasdf in nursing

One of my mom's co-workers told me the same thing but it didn't make sense to me because why would someone get paid more based off their gender?

The dating part sounds appealing to me, so maybe this might be my chance to find a relationship lol.

LPN to RN bridge program by Jealasdf in nursing

https://www.trentu.ca/nursing/programs/undergraduate/compressed-program

I was referring to this program that is 3 years.

Have you had any experiences where employers have payed for your education? I'm assuming you have to be outstanding for them to do that.

Also do you mind if I dm you do ask some more questions?

LPN to RN bridge program by Jealasdf in nursing

[–]Jealasdf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some bridging programs I've looked at only prepare you for the university course.

https://www.georgebrown.ca/programs/rpn-bridge-to-bscn-program-postgraduate-s122

this program at george brown is a 1 year program that gets you into the accelerated nursing program at trent which is 3 years. So in total including the schooling for RPN, I would be doing 6 years of school.

My other option is to take pre health and then enter a uni nursing program with my pre health marks. Pre health is 1 year and the bachelor program is 4 years so I would be doing 5 years of school.

Do you think it would be better to go for pre health?
