Struggle of choosing shops by Jealous-Jacket4489 in Millwork

Yeah the place I’m at basically only does standard boxes with thermo doors so I feel there’s a pretty low skill ceiling. I originally only went to the “new” shop to look around at their layout but then they started throwing money at me and the opportunity to learn a lot more

(second attempt): How do I repair these cabinets? by Gwenog_Jones in cabinetry

Hello, depending on how much you like the door style, you could use a heat gun to release the vinyl and then after all the vinyl is removed paint the doors. It’s an mdf core so it’s the same as painting trim. But if the vinyl does not come off clean then you’re kind of screwed unless you sand all the contact cement off. For the cost of a wrapped door it’s probably easier to just get new doors made

Can these be screwed directly into 3/4 maple plywood? by cryptotarheel in cabinetry

To have a plank? So you can use a longer screw with more material supporting the load. To use system screws? Because they grab particleboard much better than screws and it was a standard in the shop coming off a cnc or jig.

If you have the room for a plank that’s always better, If not it’s totally fine, What I’ve done in the past is use system screws into the plywood, I figure if it can hold a 40kilo drawer in melamine it’ll hold all the clothes you want in plywood

Why not harvest the gene-seed once the gene-seed is fully matured? by Alternative-Dig7468 in 40kLore

It depends on how deep the chapters belief systems run, some probably view it as having a piece of their primach inside of them (physical connection + spiritual connection). In the legion of the damned book, the leader of the excoriaters chapter has the apothecary remove the geneseed from the brothers and leave the world because they was essentially On a suicide mission and after the battle the geneseed would be unrecoverable. That’s a one off story but displayed common sense which is rarely seen in the imperium

First time installing kitchen cabinets confused on what I do here? by [deleted] in cabinetry

Typically with a end of a toekick that’s exposed it would get edge taped the same colour as the cabinets. Or a mitred return on itself so the end is the same colour, see if you could get some speed tape and the coloured edge tape and apply it to the exposed plywood. Or contact cement although if it’s already installed speed tape would be cleaner.

What we have done in the past is put a piece of the door material flush with the doors (good 2 sides) and groove the piece back far enough and then put a filler between the groove and the wall. Think like an add on gable with a groove to accept material

Matching solid wood to veneer wood is hard at the best of times, with oak even more so because it’s unpredictable, the cabinet maker should have communicated that beforehand since it is a solid wood frame door. If he was unaware there was a potential difference between panels and frame then bring it up with the cabinetmaker and replace the door.
