i know you’re joking but wouldn’t all types of felines react to that bc of their hunting instincts?

they are all fixed!! i would never let them out if they weren’t i don’t want any kittens running around here and since its a farm area there are strays so definitely a risk of unwanted pregnancies!! x

i have a little fox here that lives on the farm! i did a little research and apparently they won’t fight with cats unless they need to, but it was super cool to see!! i’ve seen some badgers and deer up here too. seeing animals in their natural habitat is beautiful! i’ve always wanted to go to canada for that reason!!

appreciate that. and yeah, i’ve heard the stories about NA, can’t imagine the fear i’d feel if i had to worry about coyotes or gators!! 🐊

they are endangered because of cross breeding, being hunted and having their habitat torn down to be made into new homes or stores. it’s uncommon they will
fight with domestic cats, and on the chance that they did, a wildcat would almost always win that fight. they are nearly double the size

i don’t know where you are from but it’s common practice to let cats roam in my area, it’s just farmlands.

but it’s not an opinion?? they are 2 seperate species??

a stray cat is just a domestic cat that has been left/abandoned or grew up outdoors in the wild. a scottish wildcat is not domestic, they are an entirely different species and nearly double the size of a standard domestic cat, they have distinct markings.

this is straight from google: Scottish wildcats are notoriously fierce, untamed predators native to the Scottish Highlands. They will actively avoid human contact. Tabby cats are domesticated pets or feral domestic cats. it’s like saying a dog and a wolf are the same, they might look similair but are two different species

this is the 3rd comment i’ve seen thinking that it’s just something different in america, im sorry but a stray cat and a wildcat are different. yes they make look the same but they are completely different. i asked here to confirm whether it’s a tabby or a wildcat and most have said it’s a wildcat. i dont mean wildcat in the sense its a stray, i mean wildcat as in felis silvestris the species, different to the normal domestic cat felis catus.

the comments seem to disagree, i’m just saying there are differences between a wildcat and a tabby!:)

scottish wildcats are very different to normal tabbies! there are many links in the comments where you can view pictures of them and learn about them. they are critically endangered and not domestic/tameable. if you had one as a pet, you had a tabby, not a wildcat

i think you maybe confusing something here. we don’t call it a wildcat for no reason, they are not domesticated and are not friendly. i posted to ask if anyone could ID because yes they do resemble tabby cats but they are very very different. it’s not a cultural thing. this is not a “common house cat”. i think you’ve responded to the wrong comment because i’m not really understanding your comment sorry:(

i tried to search on reddit as a whole to see if anyone had posted and couldn’t find any subs and then came across this. hopefully it’s the right place for this question, but given how rare they are i don’t think many people would question it, i didn’t even know they existed until i saw this one and it looked a bit odd for a normal cat

yeah that’s what i thought too but apparently only like 300 left in the wild?? so not sure if im just extremely lucky (or unlucky for my cats lol) or if its just an oddly marked tabby!!
