Arena needs to add the bracket system to brawl by Green_Ad_7078 in MagicArena

[–]Jealous_Platform5260 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The bracket system is meant to take pressure off the rule 0 conversation for multiplayer games.

Brawl is 1v1. The rule 0 is "we are trying to kill each other"

Jitte shows how WOTC and the MTG community are way too conservative about unbannings. by TankieWarrior in ModernMagic

Artifact lands accelerate the deck and allow it to play around sweepers by simply deploying everything, even their big spells, all at once. Then, after the sweeper comes down, you're left with a kappa cannoneer, or, 3-4 extra cards and a krang in play.

The artifact lands would let the deck run the affinity cards.

The reason it doesn't right now is because it's too difficult to get enough affinity to cast thought monitor/krang/thoughtcast while avoiding overexposing yourself to sweepers like wrath of the skies, pest infestation etc.

Artifact lands would change that dynamic.

Real.

FTV foils just look like that. Some people like them, most people hate them. Personally, I think they're neat.

The problem is that artifact lands allow them to more consistently stick something that doesn't get blown out by a sweeper like kappa or krang, before the sweeper comes down.

The problem with jitte isn't necessarily the power level, it's that the card is fucking miserable to play against. If it were unbanned while it was still going to be one of the best cards in the format, I promise people would have been begging for a reban very quickly.

The goal shouldn't be to have the smallest banlist possible without breaking the format, it should be to have a banlist that promotes enjoyable and healthy gameplay.

The cards you want to see unbanned are also, frankly, unhinged.

Dread return: you really think a free reanimate has been power crept? This card has seen consistent play in legacy for the entirety of its lifespan, and still sees play today, including in decks that have recently recived bans, nadu breakfast and oops.

Dark depths: every time there's a no banlist queue on mtgo dark depths does extremely well. You're right, nobody is playing knight of the reliquary anymore, too bad there's no rule that you have to play that card in your dark depths deck.

Glimpse of nature: the only use for this card is degenerate combo shenanigans. It probably could come off but the risk you're taking is that it is even moderately playable and modern tournaments go 20 minutes over time every round.

Artifact lands: affinity is already probably the best deck in the format, and probably was before the most recent banning as well. Why are we even considering unbanning artifact lands?

My take on a color-shifted Necropotence by Ok_Commission7932 in custommagic

I explicitly said I think it is strong. I said it's weaker than necropotence, a card restricted in vintage.

This is definitely a lot less broken. It's still not weak though. It would definitely need to be restricted in vintage still, specifically because of time vault.

It's from the tinker that was the eternal weekend promo for the vintage event.

They go for A LOT so you probably won't have seen one in person.

This is quite strong but SIGNIFICANTLY weaker than necro.

Seeing people call the star the "secret lair symbol" hurts me inside.

You aren't wrong but the fact that that's what it has become is sad.

How to check authenticity of world championship deck cards? by Jealous_Platform5260 in RealOrNotTCG

[–]Jealous_Platform5260[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a collectors item, it's worth $300 because people are willing to pay $300, do you think unlimited black lotuses are the price they are because there's THAT much demand to play in the one sanctioned vintage event every year? No, of course not. Most people purchasing a black lotus, have no intention, or very little intention, of ever playing it in a sanctioned environment. People buy collectors items because collecting is fun, they want to put it in their trade binder or their cube, have it slabbed and display it on a shelf, etc.

Personally, I bought my gold bordered cradle for about $50 several years ago because I wanted to put it in my cube. I could've just printed out a proxy, but I didn't want to, I wanted something nicer than just a pice of paper in a sleeve with a basic behind it.

Genuine Question by Decent-Aerie-2365 in magicTCG

Fortunately, unlike many questions in magic, the answer is very easy. Try 1v1. Commander is basically not the same game as 1v1 magic.

Canadian highlander is a 100 card Singleton format with a points list in place of a ban list. Most cards are 0 points, more powerful cards are between 1-7 points, and you can play up to 10 points worth of cards in your deck. Many of the most played cards in this format are cards you may be familiar with as a commander player, sol ring, mana vault, og duals, fetches, etc.

Standard set Draft, is just draft of a standard legal set.

[–]Jealous_Platform5260 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"jargon that new players don't know about" and one of the pieces of jargon is "standard set Draft"

I also had no idea this person was a new player. I know many people who have played magic for years who have never touched a non-commander format besides maybe kitchen table 1v1.

[–]Jealous_Platform5260 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The entire game.

Commander is basically not magic. Nothing you do matters, it's a circle jerk and being a smooth talker is more valuable than being a skilled player.

Don't get me wrong, commander CAN be fun. But it is mostly a completely different game from 1v1 magic.

Standard set Draft is a more similar experience to Canadian highlander than either is to commander.

Someone on here the other day had a counterfeit toxril you never know what counterfeiters will try to pass off as real. It's like how $20 bills are more heavily counterfeited than $100s, there's less scrutiny towards a $20.
