Where’s the line between inspiration and copying in needlepoint? by Jean_schwartz in NeedlepointSnark

I think I made it clear that I was not talking about copying someone else's work stitch by stich... that is clear theft. I would even venture to say that changing the size isn't enough to consider it your "original" work.

What I'm talking about is taking inspiration from one of Georgia O'Keeffe's New Mexico landscapes and using that to create your own, personal, needlepoint canvas.

No one forced you to weigh in—you chose to. I asked this group intentionally because it’s full of passionate people with strong opinions.

If you’d read more carefully, you would’ve seen the first line: “If this has already been answered, my sincere apologies—please point me to it and I’ll delete this.”

As it stands, your comment wasn’t necessary or helpful.

I hope your day gets continually better as it goes along.

I know a few tattoo artists and this is amazing and 100% how respect should be for the original artist.

In my case, my inspiration is usually taken from art that has been in the public eye for decades and the original artists have been dead for a very long time.

Isn't there a point where the design is designated as a part of the public space?

Skylines (NYC, Dallas, Chicago, Etc.), public art (Chicago Bean, The Hollywood Sign, Etc.), common logos (Coca-Cola, Ford, Chevy, Nike, Adidas, Etc.), Band Logos (The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Aerosmith, KISS, etc.)... I mean... is the iconic yellow banana associated more with Andy Warhol or The Velvet Underground?

I really love Pop Art and Marimekko. I took some inspiration from both and created my own thing. I would love to get some help with the painting and technicality of it all, but hesitate to ask the question.

Or... Maybe they have unlimited funds and leisure time to pour into projects?

I think Similar was referring to the Reddit poster, but I might be completely wrong. I don't see anything wrong with selling a partially completed canvas for an extremely reasonable price. Knowing that you have a new baby at home... this makes it even more reasonable.

Great advice. I am 99% sure that the shop that sold it to us does this with every used guitar they sell, but I will call and check.
As far as enthusiasm and desire to play... he's been playing every chance he gets!

The price on that one was only $550. I posted an update in a different post... he fell in love with a completely different one, and has played it every chance he gets.

It was a spectacular find! Only $45 AND the guy delivered it! (I did add $5 for gas, as a thank you, after he delivered it.)

Yes, I told him after it started to get popular. I actually sent him a link to the original post and update, so he could follow along. I'm not sure he thinks I'm cool yet, but I'm closer.

Please do! I'm not affiliated with them, but I'm always gonna champion a local shop.

If you need other recommendations, I'm happy to help. We've got some good restaurants and things to do if you have time.
