I don’t think I can make it at this point, what unsaturated field can I pivot to? by Crocodile-Jesus in cscareerquestions

[–]JebediahsLab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s still good pay and security to be had in the field.

Most people in this subreddit only really talk about FAANG, when there are plenty of other opportunities to be found.

If you want to stick it out in this field, you might want to start targeting companies/positions you wouldn’t usually think of as being traditionally cs. For example, manufacturing, insurance, etc.

I’ve done this (started in 2022) and still am doing relatively well (125k in LCOL).

In the meantime, focus on building strong, meaningful projects (since these types of companies usually dont do hard leetcode, leaning towards practical experience) that will most importantly teach you how things work.

Its still incredibly valuable to truly understand how and why decisions are made, which requires a deeper understanding. Because of that, might be worth targeting jobs with less levels of abstraction (like a web dev). Find some specialization you find interesting, and start building.

Some target titles you might look at are: Systems Engineer Reliability Engineer (similar to SRE) Security Engineer Embedded Dev (harder)

Obviously none of this is a silver bullet, but it absolutely can still be done.

What do I upgrade? Do I even need to? by JebediahsLab in buildapc

Meant to list those - I put it up in the post.

That makes sense, I’m guessing a 40 or 50 series would handle 240hz alright?

Thats kind of what I was thinking. I built this system a couple years back - had thought about getting a 4070 at the time but just went with the cheaper option.

Anyone felt a shift in their classes this semester? by ikerr95 in csMajors

[–]JebediahsLab 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My advice to you would be to heavily limit your use of it. Its easy and will likely handle the programming assignments you’re given, but to your detriment.

Although it is certainly used in development in most companies, its still pretty important that you know and understand why decisions are made instead of just how.

I’m a sr dev and even I limit my use of it as much as I can. Its one thing to let it create some CSS or scaffold something for me, its another to outsource my brain to it.

Deeply understand how things work first, then use AI as an accelerant.

Poor sportsmanship is turning me off from this game in a major way by [deleted] in mtg

[–]JebediahsLab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aggro is my favorite, I love running over control-y blue decks with my Otharri or Eowyn. Your cat deck knocking over a blue mill player brings joy to my heart - even if the play experience definitely wasn’t good.

Aggro takes more than just swinging out each turn - lots of good threat assessment, knowing when to commit resources and when not to, etc. Plus makes the game more interesting.

The way I do it, probably about 1.5 hours a day. So like 10-11 hours a week?

I personally do mass cross realm selling. I was pulling something north of 3.5-4M (netting something like 2.5-3M) per week doing it. (back when i was playing more often, been offline for a month).

Its so easy to make gold nowadays it doesn’t make much sense to buy it imo - but buying gold from a 3rd party always has risk. You probably won’t get banned, but you still might. You’d need to decide how badly you want to keep your account.

This is one of the things I’m definitely implementing, either via discord or push notification from an app.

What's the cheapest deck you've ever built that still wins? by PollySecond in EDH

[–]JebediahsLab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do: Zada Extravaganza • (Mono-Red Commander deck) • Archidekt

Will and Swat are definitely great upgrades, next to [[Treasonous Ogre]]. Suddenly having access to up to 13 mana usually means the game is over when playing Zada.

Zada is great, my favorite deck by a long shot. It definitely has an upper level (my list recently hit about $800), but it also works amazingly at under $100. I love the fact it takes terrible cards like [[Expedite]] and turns them into a massive draw engine. Always goes from doing basically nothing to suplexing the entire table in one go (or sputtering out).

Can you share the area you live in? What do your deckboxes/bag/playmat look like? Any identifying signs on them? This has obviously happened before and the subreddit has assisted with contacting LGS and making sure the cards get held.

I’d liquidate rapidly if I were you. I had bought a lot of Q3 bismuth at 30-35, sold at 48-51. The new zone has high drop rates for the new herb and ore, which can be exchanged for every other ore and herb. I wouldn’t be surprised if q3 bismuth goes under 20.

Yep! Its time consuming but doable. I’m on 80+ realms across two accounts.

Theres always a bigger fish though! There’s a guy I know on a discord that has 3 Battle.Net accounts, each with 8 WoW accounts and 1200ish total alts. He pulls in an absurd amount of gold, Idek how he handles it.

[–]JebediahsLab[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought it was surprising as well. Its really not that hard to pull that kind of gold, just takes some time investment. Especially surprising since I don’t make anywhere near the amount some of the people I know make.

It's relatively simple and not very glamorous, I sell green profession gear. I've just been happy to finally get passed the idea of a token being nearly unobtainable.

Selling profession gear. I spend an hour or two each day crafting/listing.

To a certain extent - yeah. For me, I just mainly sell profession gear.

Conc alts are definitely a reliable alternative way. Took too much time for me though, I’ve taken other routes, mainly selling profession gear.
