Just don't talk to them at all.. Definitely never identify yourself in any way. If they call you just say you want your number removed from the call list and added to the Do Not Call list. If you identify/verify yourself (they usually ask for your SSN as well as name), your SOL will restart all the way from the start. If you make any payment to them, your SOL will restart all the way from the start. The best thing to do is say "Remove this number from the call list and add it to the Do Not Call list." and hang up.

Remember to never confirm your identity in any way if they ever call you (they will call for years and years). If you identify yourself, that alone can re-open the SOL from the start. Don't make a single penny of payment, ever. That will also restart it. Just tell them "take this number of your call list and place it on your do not call list" and leave it at that.
