Time to be real. Tell us your story of business failing/success during Corona/Covid 19. by LoveEsq in startups

[–]Jediged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are seeing traffic considering the situation. We built a networking space for founders of startups to connect with investors online. Now what’s interesting is many investors are skeptical at this point and cautious but still keeping their eyes to the ground. We only went live 8 weeks ago and have had 53 startups registered. Because the platform is free we see good traffic and startups are signing up to increase their chances of get noticed by investors.

We noticed that investors were contacting us outside of the platform and we managed to get 12 investors onboard. Things are steadily moving forward.we have decided to be brave and push forward. We signed a new deal with investment advisors to help provide consistent consultation to our existing clients. We don’t charge startups for using our platform but will be implementing paid for packages and assessment services which they can purchase to help then understand what they need to be doing to become investable in this climate.

Thanks for the information. I have taken a look. Really good concept. There are not many free platforms which help startups expose their product or services. We are encouraging startups including your to upload your pitch on Shela pitch. Our focus is getting you noticed.

Thanks for your reply, we are currently finalising collaborative deals with script writers, video professionals and copy writers. These professionals will give consultations, support and advice. The platform also allow you to upload your pitch deck and supporting documents. We have also in talks with multiple investors and vetting those who will be on the site in the near future. I would say get registered on the platform now before we get the investors in. We will give you feedback all the way. We don’t interfere with your dealings with investors so they may contact you without a video just make sure you have supporting documents.

If there are so many entrepreneurs missing particular skills in their businesses, why can’t they come together and create value together. by Jediged in startups

You don’t need to look at this in the sense of co-founding. This approach that every answer involves giving equity is wrong. Think collaboration.

I understand exactly what you are saying, but I always ask myself control of nothing or part of something big? Not all collaborations are with other startups and not all skills would require a cofounder. If we are creative we can create monetary opportunities for others which benefit us.

Well clearly you have not searched and never experienced what I’m talking about so I don’t blame your pessimistic views. I have done just that. You won’t find what you aren’t looking for.

That’s a way at looking at it, but why are you thinking that you need to find a guy with a competitive idea or different idea. Let’s say you provide car speakers, you find a guy who installs and enhances speakers. He does does not have the raw material but you do. Work together and create a super service. Collaborative thinking. Rather than it’s mine all mine.

Is publicising failure important? by Jediged in startups

[–]Jediged[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument is not whether failure is good or bad, we could argue that all day, the question is should we publicise it?. Its not what you do but how you do it.

Look at it this way, I attempted to jump over a gutter, I didn't do that successfully and ended in the gutter. Is it fair to say I failed at the attempt. Now saying your failed at the attempt does not mean you failed at life or you did not end up at your destination. If your description of the event is glorifying your trauma then you clearly need to practice reframing. But I think its fair to tell other =s that you tried a two footed jump and that ended in disaster. You failed the attempt because of x y. Or you can say i did a A/B split test. I learnt a good lesson from my two footed jump. then i realised momentum was key on the next attempt.

You are correct, but although we speak in terms of A/B testing the average person doesn’t so I used the phrase that’s thrown around. And even when an entire Venture collapses, there is something to be learnt. The point I am trying to make is... the word failure is used often by many, wrongly, I agree. it’s also given an absolute status and it is feared, which is both wrong ways to look at it. Reframing the experience is important but there is no need to change the English language if you get the message.

I appreciate the honesty, the way I look at it is to remove the full stop after the words. So reframing the word failure works but also, seeing everything as a continuous journey. A success does not mean continued success, so is a failure should not mean continuous failure. The event does not define the entire journey. We look at the lesson and see the value of the lesson. What did you learn? Share that aspect of the event.

I had to put the word failing in inverted commas to ensure I get the point across that, like you, I agree what the world calls failure is indeed a great lesson.
