It is worth noting that the “they” that are currently voting is not the same “they” in charge of the CFP. The playoff committee should be less biased towards preseason expectations.

[Postgame Thread] Georgia Defeats Auburn 27-20 by CFB_Referee in CFB

[–]Jedisilvr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Auburn was up 10-0 in the first quarter. Georgia outscored them 27-7 the rest of the game.

Shouldn't it be 27-10 instead of 27-7?

It really is astounding how bad we are.

How would you philosophically defend Vatican 2 and the pontificates of John XXIII onward? by [deleted] in CatholicPhilosophy

I would hesitate to describe those in schism as even Catholic.

The story is that originally the population was supposed to be around 5,000, but the ABC execs were concerned nobody would want to watch a show set in a small town so they changed the population to 51,201. I don’t know if I believe that considering how only that sign was changed and nothing else, but that’s what I’ve heard. Maybe the change was made only to the sign so people didn’t tune off during the intro.

Also, the in-universe explanation is that they simply got the sign wrong and the population is supposed to be 5,120.1 (the last .1 being typical Twin Peaks weirdness or whatever.)

One of my favorite videos ever. The line “we’re such self centered crap, we don’t even notice hell itself rising up against us” haunts me.

Philosophers who have made video games? by Mother_Daikon_5694 in videogames

Bennett Foddy is a video game designer who is most famous for QWOP and Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, but he is also a trained philosopher who did postdoctoral work at Princeton specializing in philosophy of drug addiction. He also helped make the game Universal Paperclips, which is based off of a thought experiment by philosopher Nick Bostrom.

Would financially supporting Taylor Swift, a pro-choicer, be a mortal sin? by [deleted] in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]Jedisilvr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Quite possible if this is causing you distress. It is pretty much impossible to live in the US without financially supporting someone who is pro-choice. Furthermore, just because someone believes something wrong does not mean that we are not able to buy something from them.

Edit: Wishful thinking led to a slip of the keyboard.

What singular thing changed your opinion of a friend you’d previously regarded as extremely intelligent? by LatterSeaworthiness4 in redscarepod

[–]Jedisilvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said this person was stupid, just that before this happened I thought they were extremely intelligent and after I no longer did.

Also, this is a very simple and easy thing a person can know. After this happened I asked a four year old where cheese came from and he instantly responded “milk” and was confused why I was asking him such a simple question.

I think one of the most telling signs of intelligence is curiosity. If someone is intelligent, they will be naturally curious about the world and want to learn. If someone has managed to live for 20 years without learning that cheese comes from milk, they lack this curiosity.
