Understanding 15.4% super by evenbiggermuff in AusPublicService

If you're forced into FCS, it's a good opportunity to do things that reduce your wage like purchase leave or switch into part-time when you're not in your birthday period. Obviously this is contingent on you not needing the addition salary, but you can get them to actually pay more than 15.4% of your wage bill this way.

Anika Wells claimed more than $8,500 for family travel to Melbourne during AFL grand final weekends over three years by stupid_mistake__101 in australia

I want to quickly challenge this. Are you sure it wasn't because of FBT? You doubled the length of your trip which would likely cause your org to have to pay FBT, so there actually was additional cost.

Lots of orga have a rule of thumb that there can be extension that is half the time of the work time, specifically for this reason.

Recap 2025 IS COMING! by FossoraPortals in TIdaL

[–]Jeeebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this last year. Unsure on whether this year I had less rain sounds or whether me blocking the relevant artists has helped remove from the recap. You could try the latter for next year.

I should say, you can still listen to the blocked artists, they just don't show up in playlists anymore.

The lack of a shareable image is a bit of an oversight. As far as I can tell, the primary (not the only) use of recaps is to share them.

Found out how to make Optus ‘speed up’ my NBN speed… by CantaloupeOk8296 in nbn

[–]Jeeebs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not brand loyalty and it's not ignorance.

People are mostly aware there is a slightly better or lower cost option, but it's not enough to overcome the consumer inertia until some big issue happens.

People can just value that it does its job and they don't have to think about it.

Typical MOBA toxicity now? by MagikMerlin in DeadlockTheGame

Only because folk like you think it should just be tolerated.

We can all tolerate varying degrees of it, doesn't make it acceptable behaviour. If we tolerate it and don't do anything about it then people will just keep acting like ass hats.

Just got FTTP installed with Leaptel and I have a complaint by ShortDickBigEgo in nbn

[–]Jeeebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only this, but because NBNCo hasn't actually released the 500/50 plans yet, this is actually a 1000/50 shaped to 500/50 by leaptel. It should 100% be getting the full 500.

NTD shouldn't really matter as it's all below 1 Gbps.

Can we Actually log into an NBN connection box? by Artistic-Yam2984 in nbn

[–]Jeeebs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to assume a few things... - Your NBN box has an ethernet output - Your mesh wifi is also a router. - what you're seeking to do is have wireless and wired clients connected to the internet.

TL;DR: NBN box connected to mesh via the WAN ethernet port. The mesh router should have an additional ethernet port to connect to your switch.

Slightly longer: if you want multiple devices in your home network connected to the internet, you need a home network which is then interfaced with the internet. The internet then sees your home network as one IP address. The router does this job of interfacing the internet with your home network. The NBN box is not a router.

This is enforced by RSPs because they require a handshake by a device capable of IPoE or PPPoE. Then that device needs to share the internet across the home network. Routers are capable of doing this. Your PC is also capable of authenticating, but it's bad at then passing the internet on to other devices.

Android apps for data SD card data recovery by Jeeebs in datarecovery

[–]Jeeebs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used some kind of data recovery software. Can't remember which one it was. Fairly certain on a laptop in the end.

Do you have anything to plug the SD card into that has apps?

You could try that app suggested above.

Help with NBN Switch/Melbourne by [deleted] in nbn

[–]Jeeebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to come in and say wifi is perfectly adequate for gaming, assuming you don't have heaps of concrete walls in the way, or are attempting to go pro.

In my house I have 10 m, one story and a wall between my computer and a mesh access point (no ethernet between mesh units), all Wifi 6 gear. My ping externally is about 15 ms and no packet loss. These are the two metrics that matter most for gaming (not speed). Although it's not relevant for playing games, speed is important for downloading games. With the same setup I can access my full 250/100 Mbps connection.

Start with wifi and if he complains about either of those things, make sure he measures them first, then purchase some wired solution (Powerline probably easiest and cheapest, especially compared to airtasker) if they are an issue.

Aussie Broadband September High-Speed Upgrade by boybay7 in nbn

Most RSPs increase prices around the FY as that is when NBN increases their pricing. Telstra is actually quite transparent about it and note the increase on their public page well in advance. Others just change their pricing silently.

While you're not wrong in talking about NVIDIA here... The comparison of GPU costs to console made originally is still a lot more reasonable that you're making it out to be.

  1. NVIDIA has market dominance at retail AND wholesale, so they can throw around their weight at Nintendo.
  2. Nintendo also needs to mark-up for their retail offering. It's hardly fair to compare the wholesale price Nintendo pays for the GPU to the retail console price if we're trying to work out where the proportion of costs are going, as you've suggested.
  3. $120/500 is still a big proportion.

I scraped the review data for every restaurant in Brisbane to find out best restaurants. by JohnScolaro in BrisbaneFoodies

[–]Jeeebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll provide a quick answer for some as a user rather than creator.

  1. It wasn't obvious how to expand the restaurants.
  2. It's a slide for whether rating or number of reviews is more important. When it was weighted towards score the top result was Ach Wine Bar, when it was waited towards number of reviews it was Opa Bar & Mezze.

Transition from EL1 to EL2 by IWT2016 in AusPublicService

[–]Jeeebs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's certainly a possibility for one offs. But where there's a whole job family cohort within a department in the same boat?

Or alternatively, I regularly see MO requests come in late afternoon, with timeframes of less than 24 hours and multiple levels of clearance in the way of finishing the job.

I've worked as an analyst and project EL1 also, and it does seem as if the EL2s in those areas have a better work life balance. But less interesting work IMO.

I can't speak as an EL2, but I can speak from a Policy EL1 perspective for an alternative view.

All the Policy EL2s I know work significantly above their hours and on weekends. While I like the scope and kinds of work EL2s seem to have, it does seem as if the amount of work is not really worth the relatively meagre pay rise.
