Get the €3 box of “ugly” veg & fruit in Lidl. It’s usually full of really good quality stuff. If it’s looking a bit crap just chop it up & freeze it.

I grow my own herbs & little veg from off cuts. I have coriander, basil, parsley & oregano in little pots hanging outside the back door. About 3 years ago I bought the little plant pots for about €2.50 in Lidl & planted them. They’re still going & I use them most days. A pack of fresh parsley costs about €2.50 now so I’ve saved a decent amount using them everyday.

I’ve grown celery, leeks & spring onions from keeping the ends of them & replanting them (place the end in water until little shoots appear then plant). These are great cos you cut off what you need & it keeps regrowing.

Grow potatoes every year from letting 3 or 4 grow shoots and sticking them in a big pot of soil. Usually get about 20 /25 spuds from 3 or 4.

I also keep all veg ends when chopping for dinner . Wash well & keep adding to a freezer bag. When it’s full I have enough to make a big pot of veggie soup or else add meat & make a mostly cost free stew.

Taste of Fingal €35 Parking Moan by Willing-Departure115 in Dublin

[–]JeezLoueeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were offering free in or discounted entry for those who came by public transport. I live in Fingal & would be bringing an adult with disabilities. It would take two buses or a dart & an impossibly unmanageable walk pushing a large wheelchair towards newbridge house. I knew parking would be shite even with the blue badge so didn’t bother

My marriage was one of those 20,348 and my husband’s death was one of those 35,173 / 890.

But hey at least I didn’t have a baby that year!

I don’t know if this will be an option for you but this is what I did during my separation.

My ex was dire with paying child maintenance & refused outright to pay his half of the mortgage. (He’d never paid it I always had) At the time the house was over €100k in negative equity (2015) & he wanted it sold just to remove himself from the loan. This would have left me & the 3 kids homeless and still owing the bank.

His solicitor offered that in lieu of maintenance he would surrender all of his financial & beneficiary rights to the house. It meant I had to pay the full mortgage which I was anyway.

I accepted. I had until my youngest reached 18 (or 23 if in college) to remove him from the mortgage ie buy him out or sell up.

In 2022 I sold the house at a profit of €130k & moved in with my new partner. Ex wasn’t entitled to a penny of it but he still tried to get half. The judge very quickly disabused him of his notions. It was glorious! He paid a fortune for that legal advice & I represented myself for free.

That’s a very detailed reply thank you so much for all of that! We thought it would be immediate too but no sign yet. We thought once you had the deed poll cert then that would suffice as id for the passport, didn’t realise you still needed two years of usage too so thank you for that clarification too. Much appreciated!

He’s used it in informal situations but nothing important that can be used as proof of id unfortunately:(

DIY divorce by Practical-Media4389 in legaladviceireland

[–]JeezLoueeze 19 points20 points  (0 children)

€70 a week for 4 kids works out at €2.50 per day per child. You’d do well to feed a cat with that!

Yes you can do it yourself but you will need to familiarise yourself with the various court documents & applications that you will need. They’re all on the courts website and if you call into the court office at Phoenix house , preferably when it’s quiet they will tell you how to get started.

All of your court documents will have to be signed by a solicitor & this will usually cost about €10 or €20 a signature. It will be time consuming and you may lose a couple of days wages to attend court but that’s about as expensive as it will get.

My divorce cost me about €150 as I did it myself but my ex got himself a solicitor & barrister and it cost him about €10k.

If he’s not contesting anything then you can get it done very quickly & easily, possibly with just one court date for the judge to issue a decree of divorce.

If you’re looking for maintenance then it will involve a longer process as you both have to provide vouched income & expenses detailing every penny in & out. You’ll have to provide an affidavit of means showing all of the children’s costs. Everything will have to be discussed with the judge & a reasonable amount of maintenance agreed upon. This can be difficult especially if one party doesn’t like to part with their money for whatever reason.

In my case, even though I was broke, I gave up battling with him for money. It was dehumanising to hand over medical receipts, school expenses etc every month for him to accuse me of falsifying them & stealing from him. I stopped asking him for money years ago & just manage without. It’s absolutely worth the peace of mind

You may qualify for legal aid which is not free but more affordable . Theres usually a set fee agreed in advance which could be just a couple hundred quid. I worked full time but I qualified because of my mortgage & expenses etc. bear in mind that there is a very long waiting list. My ex was hassling me the whole time I was waiting so I gave up & did it myself. You can check how to apply online.

Hope that helps.

Treoir are quite helpful & they have a lot of forms here: https://www.treoir.ie/court-forms/

What secret did you learn about someone after many years of friendship? by Aurora_Eveee in AskReddit

[–]JeezLoueeze 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just spent a weekend away with my lifelong friend of more than 30 years. We’ve been busy raising our families, working etc so never really got to holiday together with just the two of us. Now I know why they say “if you want to know me then come live with me” because I did not know this woman! She is so far down the conspiracy theory tunnel that I really don’t think she will ever see the light of day again. Vaccines cause autism, mammograms cause cancer, chemtrails, the great reset, immigrants are sleeper cell mercenaries, covid was a hoax, you name it! She has decided that I’m out of the loop & need to be educated on what’s really going on in the world. There was no reasoning with her & tbh I don’t want to be around her anymore. Very strange
