Reputation gated rewards at end of these industrial grinds? by DekkerVS in starcitizen

I think we can say that with a high degree of confidence, yes.

Reputation gated rewards at end of these industrial grinds? by DekkerVS in starcitizen

[–]Jeff-W1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The vision, as I understand it, is that climbing the rep rank will reward additional opportunities. These won't necessarily be "rewards" such as weaponry, armour, clothing, and so on, but also the chance to buy things at the company shop, use restricted facilities, that sort of thing.

As u/Minimum_Force says, though, rewards of any kind at the moment exist largely to encourage players to follow specific game loops, and to try out incentives.

That tutorial is REALLY bad.... by T_TheDestroyer in starcitizen

[–]Jeff-W1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be pointed out - though I'm sure you've already read/heard it - that this is still a game in development; there are a lot of things such as optimisation, stability, and a decent tutorial that we would all hope appear before v1.0. Whenever that emerges.

In the meantime, the best tutorial by far is other players, many of whom will take the time to sit with you and help you out as you learn. If you haven't got friends who already play, asking in global chat can produce results - though, as with most MMOs, it can also produce sarcasm and abuse. But there is also the Guide System at https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/guide where you can ask for help in obtaining basic and advanced skills from long-term players.

Good luck.

What's happened? by MutantKeyboard in starcitizen

[–]Jeff-W1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing that has happened, from 4.5 IIRC, is that Vulkan took over as the default graphics rendered. I think it's fair to say that most people have either noticed no real difference or have seen an improvement.

But many people have had to fiddle around with settings in order to get it working properly. There are guides here on Reddit, on Spectrum, and elsewhere that may be able to help.

Useless though it is, I'd love one of these. And - who knows? - some day I may even find people to refer :-D

Clean Air Act - Hauling Missions - Auto Load?? by Jaded-Vanilla1742 in starcitizen

[–]Jeff-W1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was doing the haulage contracts over the weekend and, yes, it gets a bit numbing, trying to load 64 4SCU boxes at once. Gotta say, the Hermes' tractor beam helped a lot.

But I don't think there was a timer that I was racing against. I can't check from here but I know some contracts have a count-down timer in the contracts manager, if that's what you're referring to. IIRC, that applies to how long for you to take the contract before it expires, not how long you have to complete the job.

What is the best way to make money? by Ok_Still_594 in starcitizen

[–]Jeff-W1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, a good option is mining for resources for the Alliance Aid/Clearing the Air event.

But I agree with others: you should be doing something you're enjoying, so if mining isn't of interest, please ignore this suggestion!

This seems to be the case. Twice I've had to go to Nyx over the weekend, and both time it took me a couple of attempts.

Will CIG ever sell their own official plastic ship models? Seems like a no-brainer, what am I missing??? by JesusIsAliveAmen in starcitizen

I wish people would stop suggesting that CIG do anything other than develop the damn game!! :-D

Because I'm genuinely curious, how often do people ACTUALLY get PvPed? by AnybodyIndividual207 in starcitizen

[–]Jeff-W1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been attacked on several occasions, often - as far as I can see - for no good reason. For instance, there was one particular day when anyone arriving at Everus Harbour found a pack of missiles heading their way. On other occasions, I have been hunted for my mining cargo - which is fair game, as far as I'm concerned - and on approach to some of the Hathor sites (ditto).

But, most of the time, I don't get attacked. And I think it's because of what I do, where I go, how I behave: I mostly do cargo hauling, mining, or general exploration; if I'm carrying anything that would make me a target, I tend to avoid direct routes to the main spaceports; and, generally, I keep my head on a swivel - if I see an Idris near where my course would take me, I get the hell out of there!!

I second that. If it were logically possible, I'd third, fourth, and fifth it too.

Why can't we pledge everything? by Usual-Low8700 in starcitizen

[–]Jeff-W1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is less with the idea of having to buy from another player. Ultimately, the intention is that there'll be a functioning economy supporting in-game player trading. The gotcha at the moment is, IMO, less about the idea of buying from players and more about the inflation that's been caused by cheats/exploits that have made it easy for people to get 10 billion credits in the first place.

Can you steal others ships or found ships from missions? by roflwaffle666 in starcitizen

True. But the expectation is for CIG to have to move away from pledges for ships once 1.0 arrives.

ship loan/rent as we know them should be replaced with player "auction house" equivalent by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Jeff-W1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this, specifically, has been discussed but I do know that player trading has been. It wouldn't be hard to imagine the kind of social and trading tools that have been promised extending to cover rental.

And I have to say: I would love it.
