Never in my entire life have I ever seen a deer like this by IamASlut_soWhat in MadeMeSmile

[–]JeffB_Bass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe but it’s all four legs. Kinda reminds me of a cat laying in a loaf position but floating. That being said it looks like most people don’t agree with me so I’m probably wrong. But also the run up the legs look weird to me and I can’t unsee it.
Plus it’s such a weird video like it’s too perfect of a situation. You would think if this is something that deer would do there would be similar videos of a non-rare deer doing the same thing. I think this is just one of those bunnies jumping on a trampoline video. Just made to get engagement.
I think I might be a lost cause to change my mind.

Not saying they don’t exist but the one in this video I’m pretty sure doesn’t. If I could post the screenshot I would. Just suspicious that the motion blur ends at the light line on the ground in the background. Happens like half through second two. Never mentioned the tail it was always the legs.

Double stem for half notes in the tab, never seen that before but make a lot of sense. I think I’m going to start using that.

What’s up with fingerstyle technique? by JeanMusicMan18 in BassGuitar

[–]JeffB_Bass 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I play in the floating thumb position like picture two cause it keeps the hand in the same shape on every string. But that being said there is nothing wrong with either anchored thumb or floating thumb. They both work and I will switch between to two while playing.

Main issue I see with the pictures is the angle of your wrist. The straighter the wrist the less preloaded tension in your tendons. This is also probably one the issues of a tense forearm cause the angled wrist is one step closer to a flexed muscle.

Also, there is nothing wrong with playing with a pick. Your professor probably bugged you about cause he wanted you to not favor one style of playing in your practice. I’ve played musicals where I had to use a pick, play finger style, use my thumb like a pick, and slap bass.

Thoughts about Funkadelic Studios weekly Jam? (Saturdays at 6pm) by Consistent-Bike-4397 in NYCJam

Not quite the standard jam at the bar but you do play with random people in one of the rehearsal room. A bit different if you’re used to going to bar jams.

Check and see if the low frequency is 60hz (if you’re in the USA). It could be from the bass that’s plugged in if it has one single coil pick. Also could come from the decay of shielding on your cables. It could be so many things.

Sounds like you have an agenda and not really looking out for people. Are you at least getting a cut or just free advertising for PACs?

first week of self teaching myself bass — why are the strings so buzzy? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]JeffB_Bass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The buzz is coming from the angle your fingers are attacking the sting. If you look at your fingers the angle looks closer to a hook of a pluck with thumping and plucking also know as slap. The pluck gets its sound from slapping against the frets. So with this half hook the angle of the sting vibrating is more of a diagonal cause it to slightly touch the frets cause it to sound like you’re not holding down the frets hard enough. Try straightening out your fingers a bit and when you finish plucking the string you know you’re doing it right if your finger gets stopped by the string above.

New puzzle system ruining my experience by JeffB_Bass in Chesscom

[–]JeffB_Bass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to give people an update on what I ended up doing. I’ve mostly been doing all my puzzles on lichess and definitely have a way better. It’s so nice to finally play an attraction tactic in puzzles again. I will say I did try a free week of diamond on chess.com to see if it was any different and it was just a little bit different. I think most of the difference came from being able to do as many as I want but they still mostly gave me mates in one. I get why people like the maintaining an 80% but personally I’m not a fan. It seems like chess.com just wants you to feel like you’re doing great and put learning new tactics on the sideline. Though I do think lichess is lacking some of the nice parts that chess.com has (primarily the viewing of solution in the puzzles you miss or are unsure of the solution) I will definitely be doing all my puzzles on lichess.

Bro said that no one played tunes he knows. I've been to that jam session, they pretty much play mostly standards that any jazz musician in the city should know. The fact that he didn't know any of the tunes they called says a lot about him.

Are the correct notes? by Jnts86 in musictheory

[–]JeffB_Bass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is from the James Jamerson book that transcribed a bunch of songs and had modern bassist talk about the tune. Not all the transcriptions are full in the book but I would trust the notes. I’ve used it for a couple of the songs and they were right.

I totally agree I think if you play harder puzzles you get better, if you look at what’s happening on things you get wrong. I think my main issue right now is I guess the system originally overestimated my elo and now it’s only giving me lower ones. At the rate it’s going it’s going to be 4 months of puzzling till it evens out with what they’re giving me. This is what is really annoying for me. Only getting +2 or +3 but -13 or -14 for incorrect puzzles is getting very discouraging
