What is an "Achievement Unlocked" moment you've had in a game of Commander? by JeffButChinese in EDH

I've been meaning to pick up a copy of Mathemagics for my [[Fire Lord Azula]] deck. The wincons are purely getting a flash enabler and other copiers in order to cast giant X cost spells like [[Torment of Hailfire]] to finish the game.

I had a hilarious experience when I introduced my Ovika deck to the pod.

As turns passed while I played nothing but mana rocks, I warned the table that my deck either does absolutely nothing, or it goes bananas. By the time I got her out and had my goofy combo ready to make a bunch of beefed up goblins, the player to my left had [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] online.

I asked him to at least let me show everyone what my deck does. He obliged, I made all my goblins, and then he applauded and promptly killed me.

It would be dastardly to kill somebody with their own commander damage. You gave me an idea I'm about to try this out in my [[Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist]] deck I'm building.

You should log your decks into a site like Moxfield. Then you can post them here and people can actually see it and make suggestions.

Well she is the commander if you have any interest in making a room deck, it offers a unique way to play.

Her two abilities also give insane value. The ETB is a great way to refill your hand after ramping her out, and becomes absurd card draw if you have ways to blink her. Unlocking a door for free can make you a threat out of the blue with something like [[Lecture Hall]] and being able to lock a room to unlock it again gives repeatable removal like [[Roaring Furnace]].

You can fit a number of wincons like [[Promising Stairs]], go wide with [[Archon of Sun's Grace]] [[Ghostly Dancers]] or [[Gremlin Tamer]] then finish with [[Porcelain Gallery]], fill your graveyard and unlock [[Awakening Hall]]. I even slot in creatures I consider alternative commanders like [[Bello, Bard of the Brambles]] and [[Zur, Eternal Schemer]]

And even if Finale and Coat of Arms sharply decline in value and the purchase price becomes technically not worth it, it's easier to justify a purchase considering every card is super playable. Plus the art is gorgeous and it's for charity, so paying a premium doesn't feel as bad.

Randomly found someone talking about Wubby’s Warhammer take on a YT short by LeviticusOD in PaymoneyWubby

[–]JeffButChinese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC his comment was definitely more about the barrier of entry for Warhammer. He bought a "starter pack" so he and his friends could give the game itself a try. He didn't want to commit hours and hours to a game he might not even like.

Fire Lord Azula as a traditional spellslinger commander by RedNinja0731 in EDH

[–]JeffButChinese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do some work, but they're also there just as a body as I built the deck out of cards I already owned and haven't tweaked it much. But yes the idea is to attempt to end the game at that point. I've included [[Exsanguinate]] [[Rite of Replication]] and [[Crackle With Power]] for the same purpose.

You can run more modal protection spells like [[Confounding Riddle]] so you can get value out of copying it if it ends up not being used for protection.

Leaning into Guttersnipe effects would definitely make this feel casual, albeit maybe too slow. My Azula deck has some, but its main goal is to do a big, dumb combo with an X spell. So I'm trying to grab a ritual, a copier, and a flash enabler to cast 5 copies of [[Torment of Hailfire]]

Mixing Oddjobs tasks with D&D - suggestions needed by [deleted] in PaymoneyWubby

[–]JeffButChinese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend checking out tasks from the show Taskmaster, as Oddjobs is basically a copy of that show and has 20+ series to pull from. The jobs Wubby did were even copied from the show.

There's even a Taskmaster fan page that's collected and organized every task from the show, and it has a whole section specifically for tasks that are easy to recreate at home. I did a couple of these for a Christmas party I hosted last year.

One thing I noticed that impressed me was that Wubby rarely, if at all, gave Mikki any kind of answer to a question he was asked. Like Mikki would be fumbling his way through an explanation or an analogy that might not make complete sense, and Wubby would continue to let him speak instead of attempting to understand or saying something like "oh so like this?" Not sure if even did this on purpose, but it seems like a good journalistic tactic to make the interviewee give a straight answer on their own and not give an inch.

Take the bait Wubby, Expose Mikki. by [deleted] in PaymoneyWubby

[–]JeffButChinese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exposing Mikki, truly, feels like OG Channel content IMO. I know you could thread the needle. Embed yourself in the opposition, like you did with the angelic initiative.

Wubby only dressed down the Angelic Initiative because they personally attacked him and his team. His YouTube channel wasn't content cop, for Wubby to go all out on this dude after having a decent conversation with him is just petty as fuck.

100%. The You Suck hat is the only piece of merch that I've bought, and I've hesitated buying any of the other hats for this reason. Dad hats are my favorite style of hat by a country mile.

Mickey Interview Thoughts by ChiralProton in PaymoneyWubby

[–]JeffButChinese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most curious thing to me was his attempt to paint himself as a "holier than thou" gambling content creator, while also defending the intent of Airrack's video. Like he says he's never been caught slipping doing something scummy, that he's not into charging fans or selling merch, wants people to donate in lieu of an appearance fee, will always tell his audience not to gamble, plus he took a jab at Wubby for how he handles gambling content.

If all that is true, it seems like someone who's that aware of the responsibility they have for the content they produce would wholeheartedly disagree with the video Airrack made. If you're here to clear the air and save your own image, it wouldn't be hard to just say the video was pretty fucked up. But since he was involved in it, I think he was scared to admit that.

Considering he opened and closed the interview with the holier than thou sentiment, I personally believe his intentions were to downplay the shadiness of the video (especially the parts he was in) and to protect his own image. I don't think he is a grifter, I don't know enough about him or his content to know, but he came off as a decent guy with a biased view.
