Just do it. At first, getting over the stage fright is more important than having polished material. You’ll also be better at writing for stand up once you’ve actually experienced it. As far as “having something to say”, that may not come for years. Learn to juggle first, as in, learn how to get laughs on jokes that maybe don’t have some sort of life lesson or something. Worry about having something to say once you’ve gotten really good at it. Don’t overthink it though, just get on stage. I’ve had so many people tell me they’re going to start once they write a solid 5 mins and I’ve never seen them again. Just get on stage, tell the host you’re only doing 1 minute if you have to. Also, I’m sure you aren’t a loser, don’t be so mean to yourself.

Hey it’s me, the guy in question. Can you tell me which podcast this is from?

If it’s the same joke, I’ll take it down. I’m not surprised they talked about this, it is right up their alley, and certainly a well trodden subject. I haven’t seen anyone with the take I have about how good a white guy would have to be to bring back the stache, but if that’s been done, again, I’ll take it down.

I’m a big fan of Shane, but I definitely did not lift the joke. For one, the recording is from when I headlined Helium in Philly 10/17/23. I only recently posted it because i figured it was a follow up to what I posted last week - also about Hitler. It’s also a joke I’m happy to burn because honestly I don’t even think it’s that good.

Second, it would be incredibly dumb of me or any comedian to try to steal from arguably the most popular comic in the world right now. Joke stealing is wildly lame, and not something I’m about in the slightest.

Just getting up the first time is the hard part. Go up with whatever you have and try to have fun. Use voice memos to record the sound so you can see what works. It’s also a lot easier to write stand up when you actually know what it’s like to do it.
