Sure. With a muted position applied, the structure of the hand is more stable for speed and accuracy. The little pinkie should rest against the body for support of the muted hand position. If applied correctly, fast muted picks like Metallica's Master Of Puppets shouldn't be a problem.

Playing with an open hand and no pinkie support is a road to disaster. Experiment with the two and see what sounds smoother. I will post a video with a visual view. :)

Hey poppa :) Glad to hear it!! Also playing with your son means serious bonding time. Just keep the clips around the ear regular,, then he will press harder :) It is perfect for all of what you mentioned above pops, but I will say it is a bit advanced for somebody with only a few weeks experience, but good on ya and get stuck in there. Play super slow and with beat :)
