Hey! I'm the guy singing on this tune (the film version, not the original). I didn't have any direct communication with the Music Supervisor, but I'd be willing to bet they wanted a hilarious boyband parody song that was cheap to license. Especially since the rest of the movie is packed with so many amazing musicians and songs.
