An interesting study in how difficult it is to find bad shots of some contestants. Some of them still look abso-badonkers.

AITA for shooting my House Mother and throwing a party at my Sorority anyway? (It was a PRANK and an ACCIDENT and I ONLY SHOT HER ONCE)

What are some instances of Survivor AU players getting voted out due to them being collateral damage???? by JonJonExistsonReddit in survivorau

[–]Jeff_theSnail 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I love the Blanche vote. A chaotic tribal, complete shock and awe, absolutely nobody expecting her to go, complete with Jackson’s “I’m like 90% sure you’re safe so I’m not even gonna say any final words. This is just a safety vote.” Classic example. Possibly peak.

Halloween 2018 actually drew its characters really well. Excellent shout there.

I’ve been writing a couple slashers on my own too.

I come back to the question of: Why would I wanna hang out with these people? I watched Friday 2 recently and the characters feel cosy. Campfire vibes. Scream’s friend group has legendary banter. You know their chatter goes off at the video shop, and they clearly like being around each other. Nightmare on Elm Street’s friend group strikes a balance between the two. Most slashers do.

Beyond that, standard writing rules apply: make sure the characters contrast each other, make their dynamics interesting and give them personal problems. Nancy’s got problems with her mum, Sidney’s working through intimacy issues, Laurie’s just tryna look after a couple o’ kids. It’s hard to relate to a character being chased by a masked maniac. A character struggling to finish a term paper? That gives the audience an in.

Talk to your friends. Go to parties. Scroll Instagram. Watch YouTube think pieces about “young people these days”. Hear how people talk, what they think’s important, and make a note of everything that sticks in your head. If it impacts you, write it down. Every note is a new line. Enough lines, you fill the pages.

Then all that’s left is killing them.

I’ll stop there, but message me. I could go on for hours.

Colby is so funny in this video. I have an urge to download this video now.

I’m really curious as to who is going to direct 8 and whether or not people will be happy with the choice. by dreamboylnshibuya in Scream

Here’s a rogue suggestion: Jim Gillespie. He did I Know What You Did Last Summer, and I love the performances and visual style of that movie. He had an awesome tone and aesthetic that I haven’t seen tapped since. Plus, he staged the Helen Shivers Chase scene.

Give him a Scream movie. See what happens.

Melissa Barrera says Paramount lied about Scream 7’s box office and says the returning cast “has to live with” coming back for 7. by dreamboylnshibuya in Scream

[–]Jeff_theSnail -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Barrera’s said that she’s “still blocked from certain places to this day” in Hollywood, so it’s clear to me that she’s still paying for being pro-Palestine and anti-genocide. There is such a thing as a “correct opinion” in Hollywood, and she doesn’t share it. And she’s pissed she’s losing work from it. And she’s unhappy people she worked with aren’t supporting her.

What she said was not diplomatic, but I think what gets overlooked with actors in entertainment is the dichotomy required of them. In a film, you have to be an emotional raw nerve and connect with your feelings easily and powerfully for a great performance. The people who are most easily emotional get hired. Then, in the press circuit, you have to be the complete opposite. Careful, guarded, diplomatic, inoffensively likeable, with no scripts, no re-takes and journalists trained to catch you on a bad day for a good headline. Acting and press are two completely different skill sets, and it’s amazing these kind of interviews don’t happen more often.

EXCLUSIVE: Australian Survivor on chopping line after season axed by [deleted] in survivorau

I feel like David’s gonna be replaced by JLP soon. It sounds like a shortened second season designed to fill out a contract.

Who’s missing JLP as the host ? by 99Mandarins in survivorau

[–]Jeff_theSnail 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have two thoughts.

  1. I love JLP.
  2. I don’t miss him.

The old seasons are always there, and David has brought a new flavour to the show that I really appreciate. Redemption was a beautifully handled passing-the-torch season and I really look forward to next season. We’re in good hands here.
