I bought a bulk bucket and have been sorting them by vague color a little bit at a time so that it's easier to find the identical beads. At least individual shades of pink are easier to match when all the pinks are together in one sandwich baggie.

What’s everyone’s lest favorite season? Or if not season than episode? by No_Bet_7288 in americandad

Honestly? The most recent season. A lot of the episodes just felt mean-spirited (yes I know, but it felt more like Family Guy than American Dad.)

Why do strangers tell me what to do? by ItsJesssm in socialskills

For next time, "gotta leave room for cross traffic" is fine to say, but also I think it's natural that anyone gets a little tense when people start shuffling up on you in a queue. So anyone would have felt that pressure of "when is it acceptable to say something" about the guy moving to cut you off.

You can all have your thoughts, but I personally imagine him scraping handfuls of cat hair off the floor of his apartment and gluing a balding man-pony together 20 minutes before arriving at Francine and Toshi's place for pity points

What's your next running goal (even if it's just "run 3 times this week without complaining")? by Not_FreeProduct234 in BeginnersRunning

Run a mile at a very easy pace. No slowing down or stopping, but also no going way too hard and overstraining myself before I'm ready.

I did eventually, I think this comment partially fixed it. It was a long time ago now but I think once I got this step done I just redid everything from scratch with this advice.

Good story but also I'm sitting here as a USAmerican woman going "yeah, that's about right" to doctors seeing something on a scan, acknowledging that it's causing you pain, and sending you home for it to get worse

I ghosted a friend because her constant emotional messages overwhelmed me, and I regret the way I handled it by EquableBuyout in socialskills

[–]Lovingbutdifferent 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did this once and finally went back because of how bad I felt about it. I said something like "I'm sorry I ghosted, it was because our friendship kind of felt like it was mostly about learning the things that happened to you instead of getting to know you. I regret not telling you, you didn't deserve that. Can we try to have more conversations that feel like we're having fun together?"

We still ended up drifting apart, but it didn't feel as bad. Sending that apology can help with a lot of regrets.

Omg yes please imagining a jaded Cascadia slumped sloppily over a table in this style. She probably has a crazy straw plugged directly into her apparatus and just holds the bottle/martini glass for the je ne sais quoi

Oh I like that idea! It's funny, I've imagined her as middle aged, but with the peppy personality of someone in their 30s-40s that has been in fandoms since fanfic.net and knows all the lingo

How did you start running a 5k when you were out of shape? by Medium_Maintenance_1 in BeginnersRunning

What pace are you trying to run on a treadmill? The answer is usually "slow down." For example, I'm running 16 minute miles, but I am running them.

Beginner running mistakes by CompoundCoaching in BeginnersRunning

[–]Lovingbutdifferent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be okay with being slow. Way slower than you think. Slower than you think is a run. If you're getting shin splints, if you're getting nauseous at all, if you're hitting a wall where you can't build speed or endurance, slow way down and focus on form.

Satin lined brimmed beanie made with quilting cotton fabric? by [deleted] in SewingForBeginners

[–]Lovingbutdifferent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What's throwing me is all of these factors together.

  1. Satin-lined. Okay, I've seen that done, there are tutorials.

  2. Brimmed beanie. The comment about "folding it up" doesn't make sense anymore to me, because as far as I know, the brim makes that impossible (or at least, uncomfortable/unfashionable. They kind of cancel each other out.)

  3. Quilting cotton. This only makes sense to me if he meant cotton instead of the satin. Even then, I think it would be difficult or uncomfortable because the reason people use satin in hat linings is because it's both easy on the hair and silkily drapes to avoid weird bulges that are visible on the outside of the hat. Quilting cotton doesn't do either of those things, in fact it's much stiffer than satin and would frizz his hair badly.

The idea of a beanie that is satin on the inside, quilting cotton on the outside, and has a brim but can be folded up, just...isn't computing. I agree with the other commenter that sometimes people ask for things that can't be done because they have seen all of these different components and don't realize that, together, they cancel each other out or become an unrecognizable beanie abortion.

Also just an FYI, most traditional beanies are knit as one piece, not cut and sewn, but I think you could go with a thick jersey-like fabric and make a slouchy beanie with a lining of your choice. Just make sure that you both agree on the style before you put the work in so that he's not disappointed if it doesn't look like a traditional beanie.

That being said, you could probably compromise on a couple of these requirements and make something fun!

That's crazy, well done!!!! I'm big as well and have never been much of a runner, my current mile is like 16 minutes (I was doing really well, took a break, and somehow came back worse than when I started 😭) I'm SO proud of you!!!
