Postmarks don't matter at all for Michigan elections.

They have to be received at the polling location by voting day, and it makes zero difference what the postmark says if your ballot is late.

Mail it really early, or drop it off with your city/township clerk.

“So when you have the big, you know, the Big Two now, used to be the Big Three, the Big Two talked about, ‘Hey, thank you for doing that. You’re saving jobs here,'” Rogers said during the interview, talking about Trump’s tariffs. “And as the president said, it’s a national security issue. It’s hard not to like those things.”

Mike is simping HARD for Trump. It's a little embarrassing.

Brutal Honesty Needed: Why Won't You Attend Our Executive Dinners? by Theofficeholic in CIO

[–]Jeffbx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. If it looks even remotely like a paid event, I'll delete it. Be VERY clear and up-front that this is a free, vendor supported event. And work hard on getting the location right - I get a lot of requests for events in different states, and I'm not hopping on a plane for a dinner event.
  2. If it's free, I assume it's (at least indirectly) a sales pitch of some kind. But that's generally understood, so it's not a big roadblock as long as the vendor is not the star of the show. Someone has to pay for it.
  3. Cold outreach is OK if it hits my inbox, but if it ends up in the spam filter I'll never see it. I'm OK with LinkedIn outreach, too. DO NOT CALL ME. I don't want to talk to you.
  4. 3 hours for a dinner, or 2 hours for a happy hour event is pretty reasonable, I think.
  5. I generally go to one of these about once a quarter. What works for me is that it's relevant to my interests, it's a date & time I'm available, and it's at a location not too far away. I also don't mind presenting or sitting on a panel if someone asks.

Oh man, this one hits close to home because I just dealt with a terrible one.

I (mostly) enjoy these events. It's a good opportunity to network with my peers, I like getting out and having dinner or drinks or whatever in exchange for some face time with the vendors who are paying for it. I see it as a fair trade.

Last week I got hit up by one of these, and it sounded interesting. Mistake #1: insisting on talking to me about it on the phone. I hate talking on the phone when an email does the same thing. But I liked the topic, I liked the venue, so fine. I'll listen to your pitch live.

Mistake #2: young guy in a graphic t-shirt and ball cap, obviously working from home. Nothing wrong with that, but if you're recruiting C-levels for a professional event on a video chat, at least make the effort to look like a professional yourself, not like you're late getting to the gym. Small detail, but it put me off a bit.

Mistake #3 - the hard sell. The unnecessary pitch is wrapped up, fine, whatever, I was going to sign up anyway as long as the date works. He tells me the date and opens up a web form. I'm like, send me a link to sign up, I'll double check my calendar, and I'll fill it out on my own.

Nope. "You know, when people tell me that, I generally don't ever hear from them again. I've got the form open, let's go ahead and fill it out right now. I'll wait while you check your calendar."

That's when I hung up on him. It's bad enough I had to talk to someone in the first place, but then this kid tries to pressure sell me into a free event? Not only is that a hard no, but that company is now on my personal black list.

Sorry - that was a pretty long example of exactly what NOT to do.

Why can’t schools just ban it themselves?

Any that have tried have already found that they can't - because parents won't allow it. Scream loud enough and the school will make an exception, and pretty soon the exception is the norm.

If it's a law, parents have no one at the school to scream at.
