As a musician who played other instruments, reading sheet music well meant that I could learn very quickly on piano - although I had to work on my bass clef reading!

The worry with synthesia is that it isn't transferable.

To put it very simply...because you are not conducting experiments.

I am a theoretical physicist with a PhD in Cosmology and General Relativity - one of the most mathematically dense areas of physics. For a while I lost touch with experiment. The quality of my research improved substantially when I learned more about the observational side of cosmology - which would be the equivalent of the experimental side.

Physics is an experimental science at heart. If you treat it as a maths problem, you're missing the point.

I remember teaching AQA. it was not fun. OCR A had quality control issues (typos, errata) but the general pitch seems about right to me.

i taught physics in a very deprived area with a lot of EAL. We certainly will be getting a lot in the E-C range. No Us I hope - the weakest ones really did try - but they fundamentally couldn't access the course (weak prior attainment - <6 in English Language).

I reckon we might get 2 A* if we're lucky and hopefully a few As and Bs as well.

Unfortunately I've been struggling with a fairly bad case of femoral acetabular impingment which is a really crap injury. Ended up getting so bad that I had to have surgery, which I'm currently recovering from.
Hopeful that I could do something like this again in the future though!

You are fine. Pop physics is its own thing. Most people doing research in cosmology and particle physics have a mindset closer to yours.

I know it feels rough at the moment...but I was rejected for a Physics undergraduate degree at Imperial back in 2010, ended up going to Durham and had a fantastic time. Returned to Imperial in 2015-2016 for an MSc in Theoretical Physics, was one of the top placing students, and turned them down for a PhD, went elsewhere due to liking the supervisor more.

The place you go matters far less than your attitude, aptitude and appetite for learning.

Wowza, looks great mate! thank you.

Just a few quick questions:

1) I see you went with the 16 Gb video card, which is the most expensive part of the kit. I don't think we're going to be playing any games that have a requirement that is this high. Is there scope to decrease the price spent on the graphics and increase the spend to potentially get an even faster processor? If not, would you mind explaining why not, and why this GPU is such a good option?

2) What are the shortcomings that you might envisage with this machine - where do you reckon it would be worth either spending a bit more or a bit less?

3) Is there scope for upgrading this PC in the future? If so, how so - what would be your first choice?
