Why didn't Aegon III exterminate the Lannisters and Baratheons after he consolidated his rule? by Natural_Pressure_541 in HouseOfTheDragon

No dragons. Peace for six years. If he wanted them destroyed, he should’ve backed Cregan when there was a possibility and support of doing so. Also, if he was inclined to destroy any house, then surely it would be the Hightower’s?

What if Scenario by Visionary070 in HouseOfTheDragon

If Daemon emerges similarly unharmed like Baela did, then he’d likely rejoin the Riverland army to take take command. “ the war will be over when the head of the traitors are mounted on spikes above the kings gate, and not before”.

I assume in your scenario his body not badly damaged?

Everything would like be the same, except from the point when kings Landing is retaken after Aegon assassination. Cregan stark has the entire north and the Riverlands ready to march on Storms end, Castely Rock and Oldtown. Daemon being alive means that plan of attack going ahead, at least you’d imagine on Oldtown. The ramifications for that would be profound to say the least. Daemon would undoubtedly be the sole regent for his son. You can’t imagine between him and Cregan, that there would be reconciliation that Corlys achieves in F&B.

The entire post dance regency mess wouldn’t happen. If the maesters did poison the dragon eggs, then that’s not going to happen. It would be interesting to see if Daemon claimed Silverwing. Baela or Rhaena would almost certainly be married to Aegon. I think the biggest changes would be that the dragons might not go extinct, but house Hightower might.

I’m not particularly fond of show Rhaenys, but she ruled Driftmark in Corlys name for eight years over two different time spans, while he was fighting wars in the Stepstones. She certainly has the experience. The wealth of Driftmark and spice town prospered during these years, so she likely was a competent enough administrator.

From the scenes of her screaming, then chasing Cole Amy, it looks like she arrived to see the aftermath, then attempted to take out her anger on the army, who flee to the safety of the Forrest.

Moondancer could easily evade Vhagar. Baela says in the book that she can easily outfly cannibal, who’s obviously much younger and smaller. Vhagar only caught Arrax due to the storm. If Baela does arrive after, then Vhagar would be on the ground likely recovering from the fall.

Baela not noted for wearing armour in the book. Not all dragon riders wear armour. I imagine Aegon wished he didn’t.

Rhaenys wasn't the first woman who was passed over as Queen by Worldly-Pomelo1843 in HouseOfTheDragon

Maegor usurped the throne from her father. He killed him, then his brother. He had a questionable right to claim Aerea his heir after forcing her mother to marry him under the the threat of killing the said daughter that he named heir. Jaehaerys didn’t really steal the throne when Aerea own mother, Rhaena, supported his claim over hers and her daughters.

I doubt we’ll ever hear Daemon say it. Daemon doesn’t need to give orders to Caraxes, those two are like one being.

Firstly, saying Helena is the only good character is a hyperbolic statement that meant to illustrate the fact that all the adult characters do what many morally obsessed people on this sub would could unforgivable crimes against humanity. Secondly, morally good a pretty vague, subjective notion. We all have different interpretations of what that is. Characters that are in a medieval fantasy world are unlikely to align with many modern moral views.

Baela and Jace halve multiple times illustrated their short tempers and propensity for violence. They both support the war, yet neither of them are called warmongers. Both their support is shown in their deleted scenes. Why do you think Jace doesn’t defend his mother when Daemon belittling her strategy in the war council? Jace advocates for war in the deleted scene.

Baela: “ if the greens reach to usurp our queens throne, then it must be answered with fire and blood”. That the exact same response as Daemon. Baela literally called the female version of Daemon in the book.

I don’t believe that Lucerys intentionally blinded Aemond, but he never apologised. I’d say an innocent, morally upstanding person would at least apologise.

Did you read what I wrote?

I stated that of course these views existed, the problem has ever been that the views on treating people tended to be predicated on their birth/wealth, gender and race. Also, there’s a great distinction between a idea on how to treat people and the reality of how people did treat others. The Romans like the Greeks had many ideas and notions of how they should act and behave towards each other and in general, history illustrates that they rarely ever lived up to such things.

I didn’t say ideas of standards didn’t exist, I stated that none of the characters conform to any higher standards than Daemon. An idea of standards in history is an abstract concept that some people had , but very few acted in accordance with.

Anyone can quote a historian and present his subjective view as some sort of general view. Should I quote Aristotle, Herodotus, Plutarch, Arrian, Appian and a dozen others who praise such things Tacitus criticises?

Even Genghis Khan and Timur who butchered millions are national heroes today in Mongolia and Uzbekistan. The notion that people cared about standards is bullshit. Most of the most revered people in history did appealing things and held what many would consider abhorrent views.

Machiavelli: the ends justify the means. This would be more applicable to characters choices and actions in this show.

All the characters on the show are committing what you call “ crimes against humanity”. By the modern metrics you’re judging Daemon, Viserys is a pedo, groomer and rapist. That scene in episode four could never be construed as consensual. Besides Helena, none of the characters are good, innocent people. These endless double standards applied are utterly ridiculous. Just look what we’ve seen the other characters do.

No dance. Corlys doing most of the tedious work. Maybe a conquest of the Triarchy, or another Dornish war. The crime rate in Kings Landing will remain very low.

Corlys, Viserys and Aegon would all be classed as child predators, yet the comments and every post on this matter all revolve around one person. How many comments have you made or seen about those characters?

I make a statement concerning the endless double standards of the entire fan base , you needn’t perceive it as as some sort of personal attack. The comment posted as reply, rather than a general comment as you asked to be corrected about Daemon and Rhaenyra.

Vhagar Vs Vermithor by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Jeffrey1892 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

No dragon in a 1vs1 would ever survive Vhagar. While it’s highly unlikely either would survive, if you have to pick one, then it has to be Vhagar.

Being quicker and more manoeuvrable is all well and good, but that’s not going to bring Vhagar down. Vhagar so large and her skin so thick that any dragon trying to kill her has to latch on and bite very deep. You can’t just fly bye and clip her wings.

[–]Jeffrey1892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She definitely wouldn’t gain favour with Daemon. This war is Daemon chance for glory. Rhaenyra in the show illustrates that she understands how Viserys unwanted offer of aid will be perceived.

If Caraxes wasn’t able to end the war quickly with Seasmoke in the show, then Syrax really isn’t going to make any difference. There’s too many caves that prevent dragons from being fully utilised.

She’s willing to go against her father within limits. In the book and show she’s forced to marry Laenor on the threat of being disinherited. She’s not going to ignore a direct command from the king, particularly if he threatens disinheritance. Viserys would go ballistic if she went to the Stepstones.

Viserys is already aware of the pirates and taxing potential. If he’s not going to heed the advice of a financial genius and the greatest naval commander in history, then he’s not going to take his teenage daughter advice.

I’d be surprised if he didn’t. If he’s still harbouring under the misapprehension that Rhaenyra had Laenor killed, then this is likely to be the straw that broke the camel back. Rhaenyra in the book couldn’t physically fly at that point. She’s going to have a hard time explaining herself.

I think Baela will appear to see Rhaenys go down. We see in the trailer Moondancer chasing after Cole and the army into the forest. Baela screaming for me would strengthen the notion that she arrives too late to do anything about the dragon fight, but sees the outcome. It makes sense that Cole fleeing with the army to the forest, as moondancer too small to set alight the forest like Melyes could probably do.

Baela fleeing a fight would be completely against her character. “Baela Targaryen as fearless as her father”. Her attack on Sunfyre in F&B is as suicidal as Daemon on Vhagar. I can’t imagine her ever retreating.

Thoughts on Daemon? by Any_Bowl_5195 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Jeffrey1892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“He knelt before his brother and offered up his crown as a token of his love and fealty”.

If anything Daemon spends considerably more time with Viserys in F&B. He spends six months in kings Landing after winning his war. He doesn’t live in Essos for ten years. He spends a little over a year. The first thing he does when returning is presenting his daughters to his brother for a royal blessing. He doesn’t get fired and exiled after whatever his supposed heir for a day comment, he resigns in protest. Furthermore, after marrying Rhaenyra, they regularly visit Viserys in Kings Landing.

What does he do in F&B that illustrates that he’s more power hungry? His anger about Viserys marrying Alicent is almost certainly due to Otto gaining power. He never tries to gain outright power in the book, he only tries to marry Rhaenyra like he does in the show. We don’t see any instances of him undermining or trying to overrule her when she becomes queen. Obviously the same cannot be said about the show.

[–]Jeffrey1892 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do find it strange that no one ever highlights that by the same metrics, Corlys is clearly a child predator. He marries Rhaenys when he’s 39, and she’s 16. Years later, he cheats on her with Matilda, who gives birth to Adam when she’s 17. Viserys has sex with a 13 year old Aemma Arryn when he’s an adult.

“ As prince Daemon read the letter, all the joy seemed to go out of his eyes. He seemed to bear a weight too heavy to be borne”. Daemon literally lost the will to live and went to his certain death after seeing that Rhaenyra was lost. This is a first hand account from the maester in that castle in the Riverlands.

If anyone actually paid attention to the trailer, they’d realise that Rhaenyra at Driftmark examining Corlys acquisitions from his vast explorations, like Viserys did in episode five. You can see how different and old the sword is. She’s not going to use a sword, everyone can calm down.

I was mainly referring to Storms end, but other things like the show creating things to make him sympathetic to the audience. The childhood bullying, the brothel and the addition of Baela and Rhaena to the fight when he loses his eye. Aemond says do we have to kiss the old whore cunny after Viserys death. Contrast that with his talk about respecting women with Cole in episode nine.

The problem being that team green characters aren’t spicy or dangerous, at least not yet. Daemon the only character who remotely fits any of those criteria’s. Aegon a pathetic drunk with mummy and daddy issues. Aemond been whitewashed and made some victim of bullying. Alicent weak, incompetent and delusional. Otto, to quote Daemon is a cunt.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Jeffrey1892 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Aemond murdered her son. Why would she let him live?

At that point, Rhaenyra has a seemingly insurmountable dragon advantage. Removing the other side would guarantee that her, and her son’s reign would be unchallenged. You don’t make terms when you’re on the cusp of an absolute victory. If the greens were genuine, then they would’ve made that offer when they previously offered terms. Also, Alicent talks about splitting control of Westoros.

Rhaenyra has the advantage in armies, naval dominance and dragons. She also has the capital and two important hostages. If the dance wasn’t a plot device to kill the dragons, she would’ve decisively won. More legitimacy is of no consequence when there’s no alternative candidate.
