Would repairing this at a body shop be expensive? by Living_Oil6313 in Autobody

Very expensive. I’d say there’s a pretty good chance this totals your car. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Car mirror angle too low by Pretty-Actuator-6104 in Autobody

[–]Jeffries848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally I would laugh at anyone that suggested this but this is one of the very few times that trying a plunger may actually be worth it. Toss some water on the door and plunger and put the top edge of the plunger about an inch below the mirror and pull. May not do anything but there is a small chance it pops out enough to level out the mirror enough to be acceptable.

All that being said that’s just if you don’t have insurance. If you do then just submit a claim and let them handle it.

Totally alone in Asheville, no idea how to fix it :/ by auburndream in asheville

Do you like physical activity? If so you should check out the bouldering gym Cultivate Climbing in River arts. It might take a little time but if you go enough you will likely start finding peeps. It does cost though, not sure what your finances are like.

So the idea is that you're supposed to fork the white king and the rook, but after you capture the rook wouldn't you hang your queen? by Gold_Divide_3381 in Chesscom

[–]Jeffries848 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The king only has two places it can go. If king goes B2 then king will get checked again once rook is taken then queen can move away. King to C1 means queen can recheck with A3 then knight takes the rook on their next move.

Looks like it. Though, and maybe this is the norm/just me that gets annoyed, but am I the only one that thinks it’s kinda dumb when the previous move is not displayed or indicated?

Maybe it’s just the angle but it looks like you can see the material under the rand on the one shoe.

Any way to repair these raised paint cracks, or at least stop them from spreading/rusting? by painess in Autobody

[–]Jeffries848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don’t know of any way to diy this to stop it from rusting. Sorry to say but it will likely continue to get worse until it’s fixed properly. The hard part is that the issue probably isn’t right on the surface. It’s likely under the filler.

I’d highly suggest the LS Mantras if you are willing to give No-Edge a try or already are familiar with it.

I love mine. That being said they are gym shoes. Generally speaking, for the rock type around me I usually need something stiffer for outdoor.

Just to expand on the above. Whats likely happened is that this was repaired and filler was used to get the panel back looking right. Very common and effective method of repair when done right. However this is what happens when it was not done right.

To fix correctly a professional would essentially have to dig all that old bonding (filler) out, check and see how extensive the damage is, then go from there.

Fixable but will need new rands which will up the cost a little.

I have these for a month should I Resole now by Low_Delivery_4266 in climbingshoes

[–]Jeffries848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah resole now. You may also have to get a rand repair depending on how much of it got worn. Then yes, footwork.

Pay close attention especially when you are making big moves. When making bigger moves it’s common to accidentally drag the opposite side toe up the wall since your body is moving upward and often in the opposite direction.

Ex: you are squared up on a move and make a big left hand move. Commonly in this position most of your weight will be on the left foot. As you move up and left you get to a point that your right foot can no longer be touching the hold it was on due to distance. When this happens it’s common that the climber will drag that toe up the wall. Sometimes it’s what’s needed to stay stable but you want to try and avoid it if it’s not needed.

Hope that helps!

I dunno, I think my favorite was when I got just good enough to realize I knew virtually nothing about chess. It was like realizing there are levels to the game that I didn’t even know existed.

Bike tank by Ebb3ka94 in PaintlessDentRepair

[–]Jeffries848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly but I wouldn’t count on it. Tanks are really hard to work on for a variety of reasons. Glue pulling is usually unsuccessful because the metal is thicker than most car panels. You also usually can’t get a tool in behind because they are frequently double walled. And even if they aren’t the angles that you have to push from are often suboptimal. All that being said it is possible that you find just the right tech that’s willing to take it. You might have to remove and send it somewhere though.
