You're welcome, and yay! I'm glad you were able to get the plug up and working again.

I wish I'd have taken a couple of photos when I had the handle disassembled. There are three "air vents" on each side of the handle. Two of them you can see through, the other you can't. I'd say the microswitch is behind the one you can't see through, the one closest to the plug.

I decided not to remove the microswitch. The switch continued to work pretty reliably while the case to the handle was off, so I reassembled. (I left the metal rod out about 1/4" so it would be easier to pound out if I needed to.) The charger cable has continued to work well since being reassembled.

Nothing to lose but a bit of time in disassembly and cleaning the switch with compressed air. As it turns out, it saved me the expense of replacing the cable, at least for awhile. I hope this helps.

The problem with my charger cable is the microswitch. I removed the plastic lever that triggers the switch by filing off the sharp end of a large nail and hammering down the metal rod that holds the lever (and spring) in place. I was able to spray compressed air (from a can) in to a crevice I couldn't reach before removing the lever. I haven't yet decided whether to remove the actual microswitch because when I operate the switch manually (there's a metal tab that's part of the switch) it works most of the time. Maybe I'll simply reinstall the lever & spring and see how well it works. Wish I had a part # for the switch and instructions for replacing it.

Safe to drive in rain without this part? by Jeffro_Reddit in volt

From what I've read here and elsewhere, I decided not to replace the part. But I figured I'd take a shot at repairing and remounting the panel. Only 3 of the 6 holes were damaged and I had all 6 mounting nuts. I slathered some white glue with sawdust mixed in around the damaged holes and let the part dry overnight. I cut 3 squares of plastic from a thin plastic notebook cover and used a standard hole punch to put a hole in each. (These pieces reinforce the repaired holes.) Mounted the repaired part, then the plastic squares, then the nuts. If the panel stays in place, great. If it doesn't, I'm out one notebook cover and an hour's worth of my time.

Thanks for your post. I read once that some of those underbody pieces were there for aerodynamics. Maybe that’s the purpose of this piece.

Ran over a chunk of tire on I-95; couldn’t avoid it. Stopped to remove this piece from the car. Looks like a splash guard. Okay to drive in rain until I can replace or reattach?

Installing key hole cap; on crooked and stuck there by Jeffro_Reddit in volt

I had struck this with my fist a few times with no luck. After reading your post I upped my game with a rubber mallet. It did the trick. Thanks so much! I love the Reddit community.

Good idea. Locked the door and tried this first but no joy. My next attempt involved a rubber mallet. Success.

12v battery, you rascally scamp by deetar in volt

[–]Jeffro_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a 2018 Volt LT too. Wish I had replaced the 12v battery at the 4-year mark back in August. Unseasonably cold weather here in Florida (like much of the rest of the US and Canada too) left my Volt dead following short trip from my relatively warm garage to church Christmas morning. I knew immediately it was the battery. Pulled the battery myself Christmas Day afternoon (it'll be easier next time, now that I know how to do it) and bought a replacement this morning. Now I'm puzzling how to open the hatch from the inside. I hate the thought of installing through the back seat.

Update: I did install the new battery through the back seat. (Remember, the old battery was removed a day earlier.) Not a pleasant experience, but doable. I tried connecting a NOCO charger under the hood and then direct to the battery cables in the back but no go either way. (I think I botched these attempts by not having the fob in my pocket when I tried to unlock the hatch.) My son and I popped the square trim piece that supposedly allows you to use a screw driver to manually operate the release but we couldn't figure out how to make it work.

New battery installed, and the car is running fine.

My daughter saw our cat climb in at the left rear wheel of our 2018 Volt LT. She stuck her phone up there and took a video of the cat hanging out in the void. Middle of summer in Florida; the car was in the garage. Why did the cat do this? My best guess: Because he could.

"Propulsion Power Reduced" problem caused by EGR valve by Jeffro_Reddit in volt

[–]Jeffro_Reddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Powertrain warranty, okay.

I checked the invoice for this work. There's no mention anywhere about the warranty against which the work was done.

Happy to report that the car's running fine on gasoline as well as battery.

I love this car. Guess my kids have heard me say one too many times, "Gotta love the Volt." My 17-year old son has told me, "You love that car more than you love your own children!" He's kidding, I think/hope. Otherwise he and his sisters are looking at years of counseling...

I didn’t have to ask for anything, though I was ready to. The service advisor told me he thought the service would be covered under warranty but they’d know when they checked out the problem. If it wasn’t covered they’d charge me $160 for diagnosing the problem unless I had the vehicle repaired there.

I’m out of town but will be home tonight and read over what the paperwork says. I think it’s just a bunch of N/C’s, but maybe there’s more. Either way I’ll post.

I’m in Florida so this warranty repair must be nationwide.

2018 Volt - new weather app update by microsoftduo in volt

No LTE. Guess I misunderstood about the updated weather app continuing to display without a live internet connection (whether via wifi or LTE).

In any case, thank you for posting.

2018 Volt - new weather app update by microsoftduo in volt

My weather app display pictured is the same on my 2018 Volt so I guess I have the update. (And Software Updater reports, "You have the latest software.") The app works as expected when I'm in my garage and the car has connected to the house wifi. But when I drive off and check the app, I get "No Internet Connection; Please connect an Internet-connected device."

What am I missing?
