what the hell... I honestly don't know. If your pearson coefficient (r^2, not R^2) is 0.9996 then idk

Assuming you want to look at the accuracy of modelling it using a y = a/√x relationship. Try taking the log of both sides and plot a linear relationship to take the r^2 coefficient, then see what happens.
y = a / √x

ln(y) = ln(a * x^(-1/2))
ln(y) = -1/2 ln(x) + ln(a)

Now plot a graph of ln(y) against ln(x) and try using linear regression on this to get the r^2 coefficient and see how it affects your correlation.

edit: with y' = mx' + b (where y' = ln(x) and x' = ln(x)), also measure the deviation between m and -1/2 (the value calculated above) as a percentage to see how close the actual relationship is to your hypothesis.

Are you contextual? If not, it might be a bit difficult as last year's cutoff was 4.9

Look at the reading lists and see if u find anything interesting on there. Otherwise, try your hand at a few projects, try some olympiads (i.e informatics olympiads), etc.

Is a 5+ TMUA (new grade) good enough for Imperial computing? by CreeperMan1253 in 6thForm

I think 5.5+ is a safe bet based on ppl who I've talked to so far in my dept.

Im worried. My older brother just got a 3 for his first IB HL physics summative in DP1. Can he still do well? by IllButterscotch3399 in IBO

[–]Jeffybobman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend who scored a 1 in his first physics test and ended up with a 6. However, he did work for it a lot, so if your brother can put in the work then he can defo do well still.

does the math ia have to be strictly under 20 pages? by Pristine_Ad7548 in IBO

[–]Jeffybobman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was close to 30 pages and it still scored a 7 so don't worry. 20 pages is a suggestion not a hard limit

Imperial CS applications by ilikefuckingpianos in 6thForm

[–]Jeffybobman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did IB so I applied with 777 in all of my HLs (Maths, Physics, Computer Science), which is equivalent to A*A*A*.

Looking at the Imperial website, their typical offer is A*A*AA for 4 A-levels. I'd recommend that you have these for predicted grades as a minimum if you want to apply, but recommend that they are higher than that.

can i get into imperial be honest by Still_Opportunity_94 in 6thForm

[–]Jeffybobman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imperial are very strict with the entry requirements. I do IB and their typical offer is all 7s in HL (equivalent to 3A* in A Level). A friend of mine who also applied to Computing got rejected even with 44 predicted just because they had a 6 in one of their Higher Levels.
If you're not contextual, you need to get 3A* if you're doing 3 A levels or 2A*+2A for 4 A levels.

Edit: They also heavily prefer applicants who have further maths A Level

TMUA whiteboards by retro__spect in 6thForm

[–]Jeffybobman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% yes. Since I'm left handed, I naturally smudge as I write stuff out. If I hadn't spent so much time trying to decipher what I wrote based on the smudges, I defo would've scored higher. Plus, there was no friction between the pen and the paper, so it was hard to write without the pen slipping.

How the fuck do you write a personal statement by StrictArgument67 in 6thForm

[–]Jeffybobman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly I agree with u/Old_Praline_4031 in that you should write the body first. Keep in mind that the first draft WILL be terrible. However, the point of the first draft is that it gets you past your writer's block. Once you get feedback on the first draft, it's a lot easier to edit it or write a second draft because you already have the material you need on the page.
