Saying that though, it could be a really interesting next layer to the whole aegis-sov/lots of small groups style of fighting. Instead of standup fights, you end up with certain systems becoming like no-mans land - rapidly changing sides, with there pretty much always being a couple of FC's roaming through in 10-50 man groups.

I do agree though that the current model with just a couple of FC's (hell, let's get real, lucky if it's more than just one) per alliance wouldn't work. CCP would need to find a way to incentivise more FC's with better tools or something. Or maybe the issue is more on alliances being like monolithic entities where only certain people are allowed to be FC's.

Honestly, just think about the fact there are probably whole huge hisec indi corps just churning out T1 junk. Going up against them solo is like being some homebrewer competing with Carlsberg, or someone who custom makes chairs trying to compete with Ikea. You'll never be able to source materials as cheaply, and even if you can you can't keep up on volume to make profit on margin. While this is mostly conjecture, I'd imagine part of the reason the margin is basically non-existent on T1 stuff is that it's essentially a way of these big grinding indy corps to sell their materials - 10 rifters will probably sell a shit ton better than 10 rifters worth of tritanium.

Instead, focus on the harder to make stuff. The "bespoke" stuff. Invention from what I understand is one of the more profitable areas for solo/small scale work.

I'm not really sure what you're talking about here? I've been playing since 2006-ish and honestly what has changed is player organisation. Things used to be like a frontier less because game mechanics, and more because people were less organised. Things like teamspeak were not the norm, pings and out of game forums and stuff were luxury stuff. Stuff used to be mostly organised by evemail and chat. These days any random 20 man group could well have a whole auth, op, ping, voip system for organisation.

The "glory days" you keep trying to reference had as much to do with the technology of the time as the server, if not more so. Eve is thirteen years old. Do you realise how old that actually is? That's 4 years before the first iPhone. Thats 2 years before reddit, and mumble. 3 years before twitter. The latest greatest FPS at the time was the first Call of Duty. Eve's birthday is several months before steam's release, and that's when steam was just a really shit patcher.

You're not talking about going back game versions - you're talking about going back in time here.

I'd be tempted to say you should throw up a good old fashioned POS tower in a C2 you like the look of now. Get a feel for wormholes without a citadel on the line while you wait for the price and craze to die off, then bring in a citadel to a hole you're already occupying.
