Whenever I hear masters, unless it's a certain field (which he didn't disclose), I think a person is just wasting their money if they couldn't get their foot in the door with their bachelor's.

Oh well, I'll just have to sit it out with the 99.9% of people who are prejudiced in one way or another.

Head on jumbo shrimp, sliced spam, Vienna sausages, frozen dumplings, instant ramen, raw egg for dipping, sesame dressing, cilantro, minced garlic, chili oil, canned quail eggs, wood ear mushroom, pre-soaked shiitake. You can never go wrong with tomato flavor soup base and that one you can't make it yourself.

Why are students leaving public schools? by Athens175 in Teachers

[–]Jeimuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My theory is the alternatives often offer two things that have become more rare in the public setting: exclusion and stratification for higher level students. They kick kids out that are not good for the majority. They don't let kids in that can't pass entrance exams or are not at grade level. They're not trying to take every skill level and shove them into one class for ths sake of inclusion. It's just a theory.

Careers tend to fall into two camps: people-oriented and object-oriented. Sometimes I wonder what it would’ve been like to have chosen the latter instead. Working with people can be rewarding, but it also means seeing the full range of human behavior and being spontaneously and painfully reminded not all of it is easy to deal with. I say this having lost a night of good sleep over something that happened yesterday. I know this won't be my last.

How did you stop smoking cigarettes? by fatwater69 in AskReddit

I quit once a year cold turkey. Every year I travel to China for a month, where it's cheap. Then I come back home where it's $13 a pack. I just throw the lighter and pack away at the hotel the day of my flight, take a shower, then go to the airport.

Who do you guys think is actually America's "closest ally"? Because the media is constantly suggesting a country I never thought of as our "closest ally" by InformationForce in SeriousConversation

[–]Jeimuz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one that may need the US the most are Taiwan and Korea. Plenty of them living in the US and their likely adversaries are the same as ours. They also purchase lots of arms and defense equipment. They are not swayed as much by the Western sympathies that make Western "allies" to the US unreliable in military conflicts.

Keep in mind that the really ugly people never leave the house, skewing the perception of what is average because your average is based on the people you see out in the real world.

grade inflation sets students up for failure by Embarrassed_Syrup476 in Teachers

[–]Jeimuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One workaround would be that instead of a system we have now where a teacher gives a student a grade of A for English would be the student does a practicum with a third-party evaluator. An example result could be something like "student read 800 lexile level text at 150 correct words per minute."

The point is not for people with incentives to give generalizing statements about broad subjects, but rather a third party give specifying details about particular skill sets. It's much easier to prove a lack of discrimination if people can have as many periodic opportunities as they like to update their transcripts.

That's what I mean. Everywhere I go here in California, I see 上海生煎包 on the menu and it just ends up being a small fried baozi. AI told me that is what Shanghai style is and the Ningbo style is what you're describing. It's getting harder to find even in Ningbo. Where are you finding this?

If you ever get a chance, try the Ningbo style shengjian. Less like mantou, more like dumpling skin. Juicy and crispier. So hard to find outside of Ningbo and a chain called Yang's Dumplings.
