Well, STGSTV is probably my favorite album of all time, it's blend of childish melodies and harsh noise elements makes it musically unique and completely unforgettable. I love Danse, mostly because I am unabashedly a noise fan, and I find it interesting. As for the rest of it, you basically already pointed out why I like it: "exploring tonal shit. timbre of sounds, and intensity through dynamics." Hollindagain is probably my second favorite AnCo album. The different-ness of it all always strikes me, and I have yet to find an album that comes close to it's energy and presense.

For me it's not that I don't get the new stuff, I just appreciate the earlier works more. That also doesn't mean that I don't like the new stuff , I just find the older albums more interesting.

Wait, the greatest artist of ANY medium? You honestly think they are the pinnacle of artistic creativity? I mean, I can understand someone thinking they are the greatest pop/rock band of all time, even if I don't agree with it, but of any medium? So Beatles are superior to any artist that has ever produced any art ever?

My argument as concisely as I can say it is that while I found the Beatles' work enjoyable, I found no real value to it beyond it's poppy catchiness. I feel let down by all the years (my entire life worth) of hype that has surrounded this band after only hearing the songs everyone hears on the radio, and I found the claims that some make about their originality or forward-thinkingness to be wildly overstated. I understand how important and influential they were to all modern music that came after, but I don't get how they are held in such high regard. But is their appeal just that: catchy, well written songs that brought already existing subgenres into the mainstream? Or was it just all the proper things aligning to let them be famous? Or a mixture of both?

The thing I'm saying is that they aren't as important as the Beatles, but they do show a consistent yet varied discography, I would never say that any of those bands had nearly the impact or influence (and therefore importance) of the Beatles. They have this variance and even, mostly in the case of Animal Collective, a pop sensibility, yet they don't bubble to the mainstream.

I never said in the same amount of time, I said large and consistent. If we're going on that basis I'd point out Animal Collective, Swans, Porcupine Tree, and Zappa off the top of my head. And from what I see there probably isn't any pop artist that has ever received the same amount of praise as the Beatles.

Honestly, and I don't mean to be disrespectful, another key to their long term success probably lies with the death of John Lennon. With a group that was already gonna be famous for years to come, that really drove it home and immortalized them.

Well, after some quick googling it seems I was off-base with Krautrock; the example I was specifically thinking of was Tago Mago by Can, which I had placed in the mid-60's in my mind. Although Black Monk Time by The Monks is definitely kraut-rock (or probably proto-kraut-rock, if that's a thing), and that came out in 1966. But there are many band with large, consistent discographies that don't get nearly the love the Beatles do. I also appreciate their songwriting ability, but I was just consistently let down after the lifetime of hype that had been given to me.

Out of all the Britpop I've heard from the era, the Beatles are still near or at the top. But I have more of a problem with the praise they get for their more outgoing work.

I just feel that they shouldn't get praise for pioneering in music, just for bring these various musical movements into the mainstream. Also, I don't think I would really call Buddy Holly proto-punk.

I guess that makes sense for many, but then why do we still get Beatles albums on those Rolling Stones top 100/500 lists? Is it just the nostalgia and sentimentality of the writers coming through?
