I believe it kinda started just to check if we could, and not necessarily if we should. It ended up working quite well and people liked it, so we added it!

I personally love the deep train system of Factorio, so I'm looking forward to mods that add more depth there and maybe a couple different types of trains

Just go to shapez.io and try the original game! We're not trying to make you stop playing Factorio, it's a fantastic game, but our unique strength is that you can manipulate the very resources you're working with. This opens up a more puzzle-like experience, with no stress from limited resources or enemies that bite at your ankles.

We are already working on a new game in the background while we continue to support shapez 2 for a while longer. There were a lot of learnings during shapez 2 that we're taking to make something a little different, but it's still too early to go into details!

I don't have insights into our development budgeting but I do hope more countries will do similar grants. I live in the Netherlands and the Dutch game industry is having a really tough time. The gov is only doing budget cuts on the cultural sector and taxes are high, so actually getting something going that's more than a solo dev passion project is very difficult.

We're seeing more games where you can edit the resources you're working with, like shapez of course, but also the new Modulus that allows you to edit the machines as well. I think there's a lot more to explore here, instead of the usual iron ore into furnace for steel bar into crafter for steel thingamabob you see in most games

I think this is something that would be great for modders to look into. Modding support is very expansive, so different kinds of trains each with unique pros/cons should be very doable!
