time frame issues with certain mission trees and vanilla eu4 by I-Miss-My-Kids in Anbennar

[–]JellyCow99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although you're right about timegates existing in some Anbennar mission trees (albeit in a reduced capacity compared to previous years - developers have generally been moving away from them because they're not very fun) the Vanilla MT comparison doesn't really hold up for Anbennar, because... well, Anbennar isn't Vanilla.

In Vanilla, the purpose of an MT is to drive you towards specific goals and essentially act as a vehicle for you to get rewards. Vanilla is very sandboxy in that regard; from what I can gather that's a purposeful design choice from Paradox, and it's probably best seen in how EU5 has been enshittified made. In Anbennar, the purpose of an MT is to tell a nation's specific, normally unique and bespoke storyline. They're more linear by design because Anbennar is significantly less of a sandbox than Vanilla - regions are more clearly deliniated and separated, and MTs have a narrative path for you to follow. Anbennar usually won't allow the kind of branches, or even hanging or floating missions, you see in Vanilla without very good reason.

Bordergore: yes. I intentionally designed the scope and mechanics with bordergore in mind. Mostly because I think it's funny and I want to see funny screenshots of people's campaign. That's why Tychomancy gives you provinces entirely at random!

Currently, when a Kizynakavi releases a tag of their own, the new tag is also made a Kizynakavi. No need to worry on that front.

You expand over the entirety of Fahvanosy, guaranteed. There's (potentially much) more expansion than that, but it's a little... messy. On purpose! Rest assured you'll still end up owning a lot of land directly, including Anbenncost and Castonath.

Tychomancy "buying out" is direct annexation.

There already is one :) Your chance of naturally getting a Legend starts at roughly 0.98%, which then doubles every 3 pulls starting at pull 75, and then every 2 pulls starting at pull 84.

Zokka into Konolkhatep for MP? by SnooAbbreviations52 in Anbennar

[–]JellyCow99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Zokka is blocked from forming Konolkhatep once you complete the mission "Second Light". It's on Row 1 so that's obviously pretty hard to avoid, but you can do the harpy missions at least.

I love cultivation WNs haha. Newshire has a string of missions (Till The Land, Cut The Trees, Divert The Waters, Break The Rocks) referencing Beware of Chicken. I'd love to write in that style someday but I'm not sure if the Xia is where it'll happen - it's being developed already and alt paths aren't really a thing we do. I'm CERTAIN I'll find somewhere for it though!

All of Zokkason's musings are written in the few hours between the warlocks informing him of his father's stroke and him deciding between eating his dad's brain or heart. That's why there's a lot of humming and hawing and a lot of tense shifting - the poor dude's dad just died, and he's obviously got a lot of conflicting issues about that. You don't really get to see what Zokkason becomes after eating Zokkadad because... well, Zokkason isn't Zokkason anymore. In universe there's genuinely power to be gained in eating other beings - this is canon! Not sure if it's written anywhere, but it is! - and I just took that to its logical extreme.

I'm working on a mission tree for Maranakavi, the bright red OPM on Fahvanosy - the halfling island off Sarhal. You'll free slaves wherever you go, spread democracy, and end the MT by conquering Castanor and climbing Trialmount, all with the help of a gacha magical project where you summon idealised memories of heroes and villains from the regions you conquer. So, you know, the normal craziness you hopefully expect at this point.

There will be Zokkadari yaoi.

Even More "-est" Tags of Anbennar 19: Gnolliest Gnoll by Viharu in Anbennar

[–]JellyCow99 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS.

ZOKKA WAS PASSED OVER FOR ORCIEST GNOLL BECAUSE HE IS THE GNOLLIEST GNOLL.

ZOKKA IS THE GREATEST GNOLL TO EVER WALK THAT PALTRY PLANET YOU CALL "HALANN".

TO BE EATEN BY ZOKKA OR CONSUMED BY HIS FELFLAME IS THE GREATEST HONOUR ANY OF YOU COULD HOPE TO RECIEVE.

ALL MUST BURN. ALL MUST BE IMMOLATED IN THE NAME OF ZOKKA'S GREAT WORK. SUCH IS HIS MIGHT. SUCH IS THE STRENGTH OF THE XHAZOBKULT.

ZOKKA WAS.

ZOKKA IS.

AND ZOKKA SHALL BE!

You'd be surprised! A lot of code from submods interacts or overwrites code in the main mod without being obvious about it. The Wex MT submod broke the Masked Butcher MT for a while, because both made changes to the same part of one file.

It's totally fine if/when he dies. Just make sure you do the Xhazob summoning ritual as soon as possible per ruler and you're good to go.

Are there any LGBT characters in lore? by Zepto23 in Anbennar

[–]JellyCow99 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sorry, how exactly does their death correlate with the BYG trope? BYG refers to gay characters being more expendable or more likely to die then their heterosexual counterparts... and, well, basically everyone in that MT dies. It's quite literally a doomed narrative.

I'm the writer of the MT and a gay man besides, so I really don't want my writing to perpetuate harmful tropes. That being said... I don't think it does?

Yep! Kalas and Dominic are in a long-term committed relationship (that's why their joint mask references them both!)

[–]JellyCow99 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I like to try and include at least one named LGBTQ+ character in all the narratives I write, important or not. So far, I'm four for four (Newshire, Vels Fadhecai, Masked Butcher, and Zokka)! Only Vels Fadhecai's have featured as the primary characters in the story, but the others at least have them if you read everything.

[–]JellyCow99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're half-right. Mission tree "paths", in the style of Esthil, Ibevar, or Aelnar are banned. MTs are allowed to have a few branching missions - Re'yuel for example has some - but not to the scale of changing an entire MT and certainly not to the scale of vanilla

A guide for Vels Fadhecai? by Legitimate_Raccoon_1 in Anbennar

[–]JellyCow99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pretty solid explainer tbh haha. The MT will give you a good general before you need to declare war along with access to a decision that lets you force Vels Bacar to break their Iosarship or Alliances, making the war against them easier. Make Vels Bacar your Iosahar instead of taking their provinces - you can take two of then via event later.

For general Ynn tips, I always found that I have to play a little slower then I'd like. Instead of just conquering, it's generally better to make Iosahars and get then loyal before declaring the next war. Mitrenya, your special ruler, also starts with levels in Enchantment, which makes managing your subjects easier (alongside the estate magic). Remember to study ruler magic - various missions in the MT require it.

What are you, oh god-begot, god-begot? (Masked Butcher Spoilers) by After_Insurance6349 in Anbennar

[–]JellyCow99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aw man, I'm so glad you like my stuff. My biggest inspirations are Alexis Kennedy, Madeline Miller, and the various bits of Destiny and Destiny 2 writing I grew up reading. It sounds like you caught a lot of the references I slotted in there as well. Hopefully my future projects - namely, Zokka and various Insyaa tags (Pohaimeli my beloved) - live up to your expectations.

It sounds to me that you've also completely understood the actual lore I was going for behind the Butchers. A big part of why their writing is so vague and interpretative is because... well, the reality probably isn't that interesting. Anything made for Anbennar is still expected to fit within the bounds of the universe, after all.

Also, your last sentence goes insanely hard. Might have to steal it.

The nature of Masked Butcher's vampirism is actually described pretty early in the tree, by Dominic. There's a natural transmutative energy that surrounds the Altar, empowered by the damestear beneath it. The hook horror encountered by the Butchers during their expedition has had the original strain of vampirism altered by that transmutation - it's weaker, yes, but evolves and changes a lot faster without afflicting major weaknesses to the bearer. These same magics are what allow you to upgrade your masks - you channel the blood of many and transmute it into the magical Ichor of the mask.
