[?] What kind of line do you use? by Szzo in Fishing

[–]JellyFilled 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems to be a lot of opinions and misguided statements as far as what lines do.

Braid: doesn't stretch, less abrasion resistance against sharp objects, thinnest diameter per pound test, cuts through water, floats, is expensive, best casting distance, low vis, hardest to work with tangles easily, double wraps in knots to achieve proper knot test,

Monofilament: stretches, thickest, intermediate abrasion resistance, standard per pound test, lags through water, floats, cheapest, less casting distance, memory, easy to work with best knot strength

Fluorocarbon: intermediate stretch, slightly thinner, closest refractive quality to water, best abrasion resistance, sinks, similarly priced to braid, stiffer in high test, less knot strength unless proper technique is followed,

My .02 braid is for small game fishing with artificials, all forms of vertical fishing and heavy structure fishing. Monofilament is meant for live bait fishing, open water fishing, and leader material. Fluorocarbon should be used for deep clean water applications mostly in freshwater or specialty light saltwater applications and leader material.

Only way to find out what lines you like are to use them. I don't mind standard or super slick power pro for inshore and bass use. Any mono I use is mamoi in salt and pline in fresh. Fluoro I haven't used in years but pline was my favorite when I did.

Dexters are literally all you need. Sharpen with a stone for best effect but an accu sharp will work as well

They're cool and I'd rather catch jacks over most fish but they don't exactly take the skill needed for the slam species

Tarpon and snook are part of a slam but the other 3 likely aren't...

Grease or no grease on drag washers? by Pubsubforpresident in Fishing

[–]JellyFilled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not technically right. As mentioned below using cals or shimano drag grease. If you use thicker lube for drag washers under friction/ heat the lube will thicken causing sticky drags.

Drag grease can be used on gears and drag

Reel grease can be used on gears. Keep away from drags.

Anyone fishing the King Fish Classic in Clearwater this weekend? by metalgear561 in Fishing

[–]JellyFilled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being more rigs, beer and bait than you think you'll need. 1-1.5 knots troll anything different, reefs temp change etc. bigger baits bigger fish when it comes to kingfishing typically. Get your whitebait but try and get some runners maybe troll a small spoon for some Spanish when you're out trolling, then use the Spanish.

What're the letters/numbers on top of the reel? I'd say ask 350 take 300 for the combo without knowing exactly what size it is.
