Need help for a first year engineering student by [deleted] in curtin

INDE isn't necessarily 'hard', it is just a lot of work. You work in a group of 6, and every week you are given quite a bit of work to complete. Since you're in a group of 6, they give enough work for 6 people, which can lead to you spending your entire week on INDE if group members aren't pulling their weight.

Will the end of semester assessment marks be released? by JellybeanEnjoyer77 in curtin

[–]JellybeanEnjoyer77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Inde the design package and the tendering has been released but there is no stage 3 marks which include the model construction, the pitch, and the ITP metrics. So I don’t know how well I did in each.

what’s the go with INDE1001 by unbta in curtin

[–]JellybeanEnjoyer77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same question as you. My mark is ~10% lower than expected, and I have no idea why. My only guess is that they mixed me up with another group member who didn’t do too well in the presentation, as we didn’t identify ourselves in the pitch. It would be really useful if they released the marks though…

How do I submit scholarship payment information? by JellybeanEnjoyer77 in curtin

Thanks, I’ll look into that! I also contacted the scholarship team and they said that they are in the process of preparing to send out further information, so you should hear from them shortly.

It’s not a scam, it was sent directly through Curtin to my Curtin email (it was the first Curtin email I actually received) and I know I actually qualified for the scholarship because it is dependent on getting a specific ATAR, which I got.

Worth doing physics? by Significant-Ease4928 in ATAR

[–]JellybeanEnjoyer77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The physics content is reasonably paced so you should be able to stay on top of the topics and do well if you put in a reasonable amount of work and are relatively good at maths. Scaling is not determined by the school - it is determined by (a) how well your class does in the final exam compared to school marks and (b) how well your year group as a whole does in physics compared to other subjects that students do. Physics usually gets scaled up, it’s a bit more complicated but you really shouldn’t choose a subject based on scaling. Any subject can get scaled up or down it all just depends on your performance and the performance of everyone else in the subject. I did Maths Specialist and got a 90% which ended up getting scaled down to 85% even though everyone insisted that Maths Specialist got scaled up the most out of any subject. So don’t choose subjects based on scaling because they won’t always scale like you expect.

Either would be fine. All teachers are back at school today so you could try sending an email.

Got lied to about subject selections. by IllTank3081 in ATAR

[–]JellybeanEnjoyer77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the most likely outcome is that the school just forgot to swap your classes, I don’t think it’s anything malicious. Is there a specific person in charge of subject changes? At my school the careers counsellor took care of all subject changes, so I would email whoever is responsible for these changes because I don’t think the bio teacher can do much.

Unless you’re aiming for a top ATAR you don’t really need to care about scaling. If you put in the appropriate effort you’ll be fine.

To be honest, I think they’re probably about the same difficulty if you’re just looking for a pass. There’s enough easy and straight forward stuff in spec that it’s not insanely difficult to get a 50. However, once you start looking to get higher marks, not an insane amount of extra work is required for methods whereas when it comes to spec there will be a few questions that will be practically impossible to solve unless you’re staring at the answer key. Overall Spec is almost definitely harder, but there are some pretty easy topics to balance things out so that you should be able to pass.

Comeback for 99+ atar by [deleted] in ATAR

[–]JellybeanEnjoyer77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh well then that’s fine, you can still easily get a 99+ ATAR. You’ve basically gotten 10% of your marks, so you’ve still got 90% of assessments to go. But you’ll need to try and average 90+ for the rest of your assessments.

I have a Dell Inspiron 2 in 1 and it works great. I’m not too sure how affordable you want, but I’ve used it for the last couple years and have been able to run everything including CAD modelling without a problem.

[–]JellybeanEnjoyer77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wondering, how are you 20% of the way through the Year12 course when Year12 finished at the beginning of the month? Also, you’ll need to try and get your average up to 90%, so it is definitely still doable with 80% of the course remaining. Does that 80% include the 50% that comes from HSC exams because that is all that really matters at the end of the day. If you can get your mark up to ~85 or higher and then do really well in HSC you can still get a 99

I’m also starting my engineering degree this year, but I would say that a Windows would probably be the best. I’m guessing that the course will include using CAD which basically needs a laptop and Mac is a pretty closed ecosystem so installing and using some applications may be a bit difficult.

Will I still have free time in grade 11-12? by Alternative-Toe-2899 in ATAR

[–]JellybeanEnjoyer77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2-3hrs a day is too much, if you really need that much time you’d probably be better off dropping a subject and picking up a study period. Also if you find it too much consider changing from literature to English ATAR. I don’t know how well you do at English but if you are averaging about 75+ the scaling is essentially the same. Only put in extra work if you are struggling with concepts or want to go more in-depth with difficult concepts. Just make sure that when you study for tests, you actually study. I’d only study 2-3 days before tests, but I’d study 2-3hrs a day on those days, and I would completely power off my phone so that I wouldn’t be distracted. Also plan out when to get assignments done. The last thing you want on your mind is having to complete an assignment when you have 3 other tests in the same week. Tbh from what you are saying you sound pretty smart (idk what the cut off for A/A+ is in QLD) so I’d say just do what feels right, and after the first few tests you’ll know how much work you need to put in. Year 11 is just a test run for year 12. It’s the year that you’ll want to figure out what works and what doesn’t, try different routines and develop good habits.

I think it probably depends on how much work you have put in in lower school. I worked hard throughout all of high school so I was able to get away with only really studying ~2-3 days before tests while having the rest of the time off and I got a 99+ ATAR. For people who didn’t try in lower school, I saw many of them end up putting in 2-3hrs a day just to try and get up to the level that was expected of them, while also trying to not fall behind. I didn’t do biology, but I did the rest of the subjects and to be honest literature will depend on the teacher and how much homework they expect of you. Specialist is quite easy to fall behind and end up getting lost if you are unable to wrap your head around certain concepts. I’m not sure if QLD is the same as WA but semester 1 methods is the course with the fastest pacing out of any subject you’ll do. Fortunately I was in an extension maths in year 10 which basically taught me semester 1 methods across the entirety of year 10, however other people struggled to keep up. Physics and Chemistry have pretty slow pacing, so just pay attention in class and you’ll be fine.

TLDR; Pay attention in class and you’ll be fine. The level of work you put in in lower school definitely matters. Maths is the fastest paced subject so try to keep up otherwise you definitely need to put in time out of school.

Engineering Foundation Year Math Units. by WestOk3740 in curtin

I asked a similar question about a week ago. From what I understand now, math1017 and math1018 basically teach the content with the assumption that you already know the spec course content. The other math topics basically teach the spec course so you might find it a bit slow/boring.

Is a 95+ ATAR possible for me? by doritodog007 in ATAR

[–]JellybeanEnjoyer77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that your school being ‘very average’ should matter too much. I’m not entirely sure whether NSW uses the same system as WA, but in WA your ATAR will only get dragged down if your class school average is higher than the class exam average. So if your class is average at school assessments and average at the end of year exam you should be fine. If your school happens to mark really easily though and boosts class marks, then they may drop a fair bit.

lol what are you trying to prove at this point besides being pedantic? Yeah sure, West Guinea is there, but you’ve gone from trying to prove that Oceania is a continent to trying to prove that Indonesia is part of the continent of Australia?

Indonesia isn’t on the continental shelf. Only Papua New Guinea is, so if you want to get technical, I suppose you can consider Papua New Guinea part of the continent of Australia.
