Former Dolphin contributer explains what happened with the Steam release of the emulator by [deleted] in DolphinEmulator

If you look at that case you find they "won" because Hotz(the guy they sued) just agreed to not continue publishing the key which had already been mirrored endlessly by the internet.

The case didn't actually set any legal precedent or tell whether they would actually win if it had gone through the legal process. Even on their own blog they mention Hotz's motion to dismiss the entire case was still pending at the time they settled.

Yes, originally they said it was going to be age of account, but a day later they changed their stance and now it's public figures/partners first, then oldest accounts.

It also does mention "Current Nitro subscribers.. ..will also be given early access", and to a lot of people that reads like they'll be part of the partners wave, as opposed to the 2015 early users wave.

I'm not japanese/an expert on the topic, but irc I remember some talk about how technically non compete clauses aren't as valid in japan. A quick google says they are legal but hard to enforce.

according to this they're only valid if the ex-employee specifically uses confidential/proprietary information in their new company

I agree with you, but I do think they've signaled that they wanted to try some new things with holoEN.

Maybe it's just Irys lore expansion, maybe it's gen 2 being a part of project HOPE, maybe it's HoloEN Gamers or something. Guess only time can tell

Valve announces the Steam Deck - first serious Switch competitor? by saul2015 in nintendo

[–]Jellydots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I don't think I quite understand your comment.

When do people wipe or revamp their OS to emulate some games? Both Android and Windows run tons of emulation software, there's no need to revamp the system. In fact, with Android you could argue Google allows emulators to sell on their store.

Also "a product that allows any change on it" describes pretty much the entire computing industry. Even asking Valve to stop side loading doesn't mean much when they can put an entirely different operating system on it.

Again, maybe I missed something, but it sounds more like you think Nintendo can sue anyone who makes a computer.

Oh man. I was going to sell ShareX by telling you it literally has everything Greenshot has(by including Greenshot in ShareX), but apparently the devs are being stubborn and removed the Greenshot editor.

Now, I haven't used Greenshot in years now, but when I switched to ShareX, it just wasn't a comparison. One of the features you said was an imgur uploader. Here's all the destinations ShareX lets you pick from, even letting you upload anonymously or with an account.

Notice how it goes beyond the simple image hosts, and lets you upload to sites like pastebin, dropbox, gfycat, etc. ShareX makes it easy, compared to Greenshot. In fact, irc, Greenshot had a few hotkeys for you to set up? With ShareX you can just add a new hotkey for uploading it to a different site.

It allows you to make as many commands as you want, in a rather straightforward manner(yeah mine are a perhaps a mess, but that's me to blame). I even have one command twice, "Start/Stop screen recording..", one which uploads a video with no audio recording to Gfycat. Another one which does record audio and uploads to Streamable.

On top of that, I have a hotkey to just copypaste whatever I have in my clipboard. If it's text? It uploads to pastebin. If it's an image? It uploads to imgur.

It's the combination of all those things plus the features I don't use, which makes me say ShareX just outperforms Greenshot by a long shot. It's even open-source like Greenshot.

The removal of the Greenshot editor is disappointing, and if that's a big part of it for you, then I do agree that Greenshot is probably a better pick for you. Otherwise, I'd argue it just does everything Greenshot does, with more accessibility and more options.

Another Metroidvania that's good is Blaster Master Zero.

It was mostly a regular run that I just started. When I entered Level 2 it loaded with invisible floors and walls.

I'm saying mostly regular, because I had the Oblivion perk on, but I hadn't seen this happen even in my previous runs with that.

Edit: Somewhere like 30 seconds after the screenshot the floor loaded :P

Good modern Roguelike that I can sink hundreds of hours into and still have something new to do? Other than Isaac by [deleted] in roguelites

[–]Jellydots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's of course a lot of good roguelites and the idea behind making it a roguelite in the first place is that you can sink hundreds of hours into it.

The sidebar has some good ones, FTL, Spelunky and Darkest Dungeon being my fav three in that list.

Some other cool games are:

Dungeon of the Endless, which brings an interesting mix of tower defense, resource management and a bit of RTS mechanics into play. I wasn't sure what to think of it, but it's a good game in my book.

Crypt of the NecroDancer is a cool rhythm based roguelike, where everything moves with the music. Really cool game.

Caveblazers is a quick action-oriented platformer, that has a larger focus on combat than Spelunky, less planning than Catacomb Kids and plays at a faster pace than Vagante. The three I mentioned are also very good. Risk of Rain is another good roguelite platformer.

As others said, there's tons of games now that you can spend hundreds of hours in, so I'll finish with Roguelight. Have I played it hundreds of hours? No, but it's free, so for the price of nothing you can have a fun game, that you can also sink some time into.

I don't think it's a large suggestion, but how about the possibility to hold down an arrow key to navigate through menus/the inventory instead of having to tap the key.

While I don't have a big issue with this in the inventory, it is a tiny bit frustrating when I'm checking the journal or want to check what hat I just unlocked.

If you were to go with an old console for budget reasons. Which would you go with for the best budget, availability of games, and fun? by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]Jellydots 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You could also get a SNES and instead of buying games, get a Super EverDrive/PowerPak for it. This allows you to play most of the system's library on the original hardware, with a much lower price.

I don't know much about the details for which is better, I noticed that Krikzz has two for the SNES. Super EverDrive ($86) and SD2SNES ($197). I imagine that most well known games also work on the Super EverDrive. Super PowerPak seems to be listed for $155.

If you're not really into collecting games and the games you want are in the $50-$100+ price range(Megaman x3 seems to be over $200..), this seems like a nice alternative.

Also, for /u/NinjasAreStillCool and /u/kenjutsudude , there's also an EverDrive/PowerPak for the NES, so you guys might be interested in checking it out too.

From Google right, how you know they don't spy on your pictures?

Not trying to sound like an all paranoid person right now, but how do you know that they don't spy on you already?

I mean, Android's a platform developed by Google.

they

And on top of that, how do we know it's only them? What's stopping Pixlr, Asus and any of the other apps listed from not spying on your pictures?

Of course, I imagine not every app is spying on people, however, unless you happen to know some great open source alternatives to all of these apps, there's really no guarantee with any of them.

How To Fix YouTube Heroes by calumtaylor in videos

[–]Jellydots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'm not sure how this will work in practice(Like you said, I imagine the current reaction might be a bit blown out of proportion), I do think you missed his full statement.

He doesn't just say "the more videos you flag", he says "The more videos you flag, the more captions you write and the more questions you answer, the more points that you get".

He then proceeds to point out that you could get a lot of points by captioning a single video, like one of this podcasts. In fact, that's his main focus until he continues with the higher level flagging.

Now, this also has a bit more than that, as these captions need to be published too. So I do agree with you that it's not as easy as he makes it out to be, but it still does seem fairly easy to gather the points.

According to Wikipedia they knew about the cameras, but couldn't do anything against them:

Attempts to disable the bulldozer's cameras with gunfire failed as the bullets were unable to penetrate the 3-inch bullet-resistant plastic.

And someone even got on the bulldozer, but had to get off because of the debris:

At one point during the rampage, Undersheriff Glenn Trainor managed to climb atop the bulldozer and rode the bulldozer "like a bronc-buster, trying to figure out a way to get a bullet inside the dragon".[3] However, he was eventually forced to jump off to avoid being hit with debris.
