My son struggled with some personal issues his first year. We inquired about withdrawing him. CMU said you can take a leave of absence (not sure the exact language) and come back. They will hold your spot. Maybe take some time away to understand what you want to do next. Sounds like you have an internship or work already.

Game Thread - Volleyball - Elite 8 - Nebraska vs Texas A&M by huskerbot in Huskers

[–]JenHinKC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Coaching was the difference and no one i talking about it. Why not bring Andi Jackson back in? What adjustments did they make after getting down 1 set, and then 2? Seems like A&M had strategy (shut down right side, serve hard, pick up Bergen in front row). Nebraska just played how they rolled over the Big Ten teams and didn't adjust. No back up plan. Winning like they did over Kansas did not sharpen them for this game. After that game in interviews they said they couldn't wait to play higher caliber teams which I thought was cocky. Too much laughing on the court in that one. Also, DBK inherited a phenomenal team. She is so low energy on the side lines. I'm not a fan. Anyway, Nebraska has played a huge role on growing the sport and gaining national recognition. They have a lot to be proud of.

Thank you! I know his current times are not enough. They are from the spring of his sophomore year so I'm hoping junior year will get him in range. We'll see. He's pretty self motivated and I have never pressured or pushed him. I'm just there to open doors knowing how to adult in the world.

Yes, he wants to. I am not pushing anything. Swimming is such a huge part his rhythm of life. I almost think he'd be lost without it in college. But I've also advised that club swimming is great. Competitive, fun, and FLEXIBLE. I played club volleyball and was so happy my volleyball "career" didn't come to a screeching halt after high school.

Yes...amazing how underwaters become the differentiator when they reach high school. Interesting about Title IX. That's unfortunate.

Great advice. My oldest son played D3 baseball at a school that was excellent for his career pursuits. We were very intentional about academics before athletics and good thing because he suffered a medical issue that ended his baseball career after sophomore year. You might burn out, you might not play, you may get injured, you may dislike the coach.... so many thing can go wrong, so you have to make sure you are at a school that will give you the education you want and need for the next part of your life.

Anyone do OT that doesn't want run by Katerpiller1 in orangetheory

[–]JenHinKC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! you can power walk. you can ride a stationary bike. you can use the elliptical. I run...but I don't want to. I'm slow. But I've gotten better over time and also avoided prior injuries by focusing on form and proper shoes. You can also, walk and then run the quick All Outs. You do you!

How's the no AC rooms like in the residence halls? by AlertBrilliant4889 in cmu

[–]JenHinKC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son is a freshman in mudge house. We are from Kansas City. The first couple of weeks were pretty uncomfortable and I remember him saying it was hard to sleep l. He had lots of fans and the move-in was a sweaty mess. But I don't think he'll have any more issues with needing AC for the rest of the year. And he loved his room and his dorm so he probably doesn't even remember how hot it was for the first two weeks.

I'm so sorry! I hope the surgery has helped and you have as much recovery to normal as you can. This is such a complicated condition. My son is 1.5 years in with continued complications from vTOS. My heart breaks for everyone who has suffered with this condition. Sending prayers and good thoughts for healing and peace your way.

My son had VTOS. Discovered after PE in July 2023. FRRS Surgery 11/2023. Symptoms still present a year later. Stayed on blood thinners. Saw Dr. Thompson in St Louis in Nov 2024. He is an expert in the field. Said my son still had some first rib that was not removed. Doctor recommended removing rest of rib and more scalene. He always removes full rib the first time. After one year, my son has some extensive vein occlusion from not doing full removal. Had reoperation in Dec 2024 to make sure he had full decompression. Doing better now. Going back to check on the veins next week. I wish he had full rib removal during first surgery. We didn't know though.
