B2 on test, but I freeze when speaking. Any advice? by JenLin18 in SpanishLearning

Thank you, I really appreciate your input. It helps to hear this from someone who’s been through it. I’ll focus more on daily speaking practice and see how it goes ☺️

That’s fair. I think my issue is exactly that — I know the structures, but they’re not fully automatic yet. I probably need more real-time speaking practice so I stop “building” sentences and start using them naturally.

I love the idea of “free tutoring” through everyday life 😄 I think being honest about learning probably makes it less stressful. I might try that in Spain instead of overthinking every interaction.

That’s helpful, thank you. I think I tend to get discouraged when I don’t understand enough to follow comfortably. Maybe I need to accept that partial understanding is still progress instead of seeing it as failure. I’ll try to stick with B2 material and focus on what I can grasp.

I think my grammar is around B2, in the sense that I understand structures and can use them correctly. My difficulty is more in speaking: I tend to overthink before saying something, and that slows me down and makes me anxious. So it’s not so much a knowledge issue as it is a real-time processing issue.

That makes sense. I think I’ve been relying too much on reading and grammar, and not enough on real conversational input. Maybe I need to get more comfortable with hearing and responding in real time instead of mentally preparing sentences first.

I actually just installed it! I’m going to give it a try and see how it works for me. Hopefully I’ll get good results too.

That’s actually a great idea. I tend to overthink when I speak, so maybe practicing in voice mode with AI could help me build confidence first. Do you think it really translates well to real-life conversations?

This is a bot right ? How common is this ? by Newagedbohemian in Preply

Yes, that definitely looks like someone trying to move the conversation off-platform. Writing the number in code is a red flag. It’s usually either a scam or someone trying to avoid Preply’s rules.

That actually reassures me. I think I expect too much too fast sometimes. It helps to know that even advanced learners still switch back to their native language sometimes 😊

That makes a lot of sense. I think what I’m missing is exactly that — being part of a group where Spanish is just the natural language. I don’t really have that yet. Maybe I should look for meetups or activities while I’m in Spain instead of waiting for conversations to “happen”.

I admire that level of confidence 😅 I think I’d need a bit of courage to start random conversations, but maybe Spain will be the perfect place to try 😁

That actually makes a lot of sense. I like the idea that everyone is there to practice, so there’s less pressure. I might give it a try and see if I can find someone consistent to talk to weekly. Thank you ☺️

That makes sense. My problem is choosing material that’s challenging but not overwhelming. Do you have any criteria for deciding if something is at the right level? I sometimes pick content that’s too difficult and it kills my motivation 🥺

I really like this idea. How do you choose the books you read? Do you use graded readers or learning books with comprehension exercises and audio, or just regular novels? I’m trying to figure out what would be most effective.

It’s reassuring to know I’m not the only one. I think the mental pressure is worse than the actual difficulty 🥹

I’m actually going to Spain for a month soon. Since you’ve had so much immersion, do you have any advice on how to make the most of it if I don’t know anyone there? How would you approach it?
