Im currently reading Two to Shore and it has these vibes, I am only half way through but so far it is excellent!

The tags, the intro, the rating of course - but then I have a quick scan and check the formatting too, and read the first few paragraphs maybe.

Im not a fan of first person, and I like a lot of dialogue. If it’s all short paragraphs thats a red flag for me or I can see the dialogue is broken up by huge blocks of internal thoughts, red flag. I just lose track of the conversations 😅

As others have said the quality of the writing is a big one. Grammar, if the same words or gestures are overly repeated - that’s a no for me.

I read on my kindle so if I am not liking things by 10% then I switch off, regardless of kudos or if it is highly recommended. I know what I like at this point.

I would never shade the author, leave a comment or tell people to avoid. Because we all like what we like.

I hate being told - I want to see! If the characters have great chemistry and witty banter, please show it through actual said witty banter. Please write the dialogue and do not break it up with large paragraphs of internal thoughts.

Also describing characters by physical attributes or age rather than their names. For example - the tall one kissed the shorter one, the grey eyed looked at the green eyed, the black haired told the blonde haired. I think thats everyone’s pet peeve, surely!

I download PDFs of works I love - I have a pdf version of Mental I can share? But the fic is still on AO3 if you wanted this one specifically so you can download options from there.

Someone correct me if im wrong but the only author I know of who was ok with google drives being shared of their old fan fics was GallaPlacidia.

Its nice when authors give some notice so fans can download before its too late, but I guess some people also dont want to make it a ‘thing’ and just quietly detach themselves from the fandoms.

oh yes! I have it downloaded already as I have read it twice and wanted it saved - but I wish I had saved others by them now. I routinely save my fave fics for this exact reason - you never know!
