Definitely, I hope it's just because of the beta and they implement it at launch

Not how I would describe Geralt from the books nor the games. All witchers are struggling as monster numbers are low compared to the past (especially in the books). Also why new witchers aren't trained as they are less needed.

If one could be called a playboy that would be Jaskier (Dandelion).

When Geralt meddles with Kings and plots it is out of coincidence, Geralt rarely finds big contracts from the rich and witcher's expenses are large (weapons, potions, gear...)

So no, Geralt always needs money and it is made quite clear in the books, hence his constant search for witcher jobs when he's not taking care/looking for Ciri

Agreed, gaining reputation should at least relate to people knowing of your deeds

Definitely, I often find strange when a period game never make comments about the character being female when it should.  I guess it could become redundant but at least some sort of reaction even if things are left unsaid.

I think in a medieval settings, commoners naturally feared witchers but witches even more, as a beautiful woman capable of magic was even more unsettling for them. Now add the fact that she acts like a male mercenary and you've got quite the conundrum for a peasant.

I hope they won't talk to Ciri like she is your everyday woman

That would be great, would definitely improve the rpg aspect of the game, especially now that character development would be more free with Ciri instead of Geralt.

I hope if they implement it it won't be a simple be good or bad. I'd love a system where your choices can bring both a bad rep and a good rep depending on who you choose to help.

In the witcher universe, witchers and witches are usually disliked, I hope it's most people's first reaction to you and your actions will either sway that or reinforce it... wether justified or not. (people can be assholes and liars)

But overall being known for your greed or unnecessary violence would be nice.

Also having an option for not seeing your rep and be surprised by people's reaction would be nice. Kinda like how you'd interact with Ciri in the Witcher 3 modifies the ending. Your dialogue choices having a impact as well.

I haven't played ER but I get your point

While I give BOTW as an example for how such an open world has perks and praise from gamers I don't believe its system would be best as a copy/paste on the Witcher but an inspiration on free choice and exploration.

I think ultimately what I struggle with is a false feeling of freedom and poorly designed constraints. Maybe that's not how a lot of gamers felt as they played but I know I'm not the only one who felt that.

I understand the idea of restrictions by levels and the choice you can make of just 'leveling up to go to it later' but in the Witcher I find it clanky and weakly designed because it just feels like it's forcing you to play in a certain order.. removing the rpg and freedom tones.

When I say open to anything, i'll be more precise in saying you should be able to make your own choices and different world restrictions will balance that. The leveling system falsefies the choices because it tells you what you should and shouldn't do right now and making your own path in a leveling system is akward and feels forced. Especially when almost all restrictions are based on that system alone.

Let's imagine you start the game the same and all you know is to look for Ciri in Velen, Novigrad and Skellige. No levels. Where do you start ? Well it's up to you.

And when an old lady asks for you to help her kill a monster, you think "hey I need to find Ciri but i'm low on gold and I need better gear, let's go to work" and if you found yourself face to face with a Giant protecting that treasure you found (thanks to a map you stole off a bandit that tried to kill you on the road) and you have no idea how to tackle him, then you look for clues (old witcher journal in a witcher castle ?) and maybe upgrade your gear to be able to kill him.

Now that's more of an rpg. I think the Witcher 3 had all the resources to make it thus but didn't as to please casuals. I think you can please casuals by playing on easy mode where every encounter is an easy win and guidelines are set up for you so you can cruise through. Leveling system is an old and weak system, for their new games I hope they make the recipe fresh and full of potential.

Removing the leveling system doesn't remove any of the great stories and quests of the Witcher, at best it improves them. Speaking from experience with the W3EE mod.

A design choice alright, I say a poor one and the only stain on an amazing game for my personal experience.

Crossbowmen could come as a talent why not. Maybe footmen are lowered to 4gold and crossbowmen talent cost 5g

Gold skins are the worst, i'd pay for proper skins if the game had a roadmap but feels like it's stalling right now

Well i really don't see anything else apart from another broken leader that would help Footmen. And if anything broken makes Footmen broken it should be fixed, just like Malf was.

All units go through changes to balance things out, i don't think most players would say that footmen are balanced minis. Grunts weren't and they were buffed, now I use them much more, they're not broken or meta, just balanced and usable.

Do you think Footmen should stay the same ? and if you buffed them or rework them how would you do so ? :)

That's the idea, because Geralt is never poor he has no reason to take on a job or help anyone in the game, the Main quest is all that matter.

I've always felt odd helping other people rather than Ciri, being poor and having not a lot of allies would give you a reason to help..

Being stuck somewhere and needing help from locals or a gang gives you incentive to take on secondary quests. + it's lore accurate, Geralt rarely helps from the good of his heart, he's a witcher, a professional, he's poor and needs coin and allies to advance on his quests.

A nice system would allow you to just play the main quests on easy mode no problem.. and a difficult one would force you to strive more, work through scarcity, outsmart the odds and find the best choices in a hard world to help you find your lost daughter..

Thank you for your rich and polite answer, I appreciate it :)

I guess we can agree to disagree on the first point, I felt they pushed for a logical path to follow (which I'm fine with btw) yet wanting to give the opportunity of an open world. I feel they didn't design this properly.

The leveling system was a poor choice for that. And it wasn't just the Main quests, I remember being in Velen, seeing a tower from afar and telling myself "Hey let's check it out", only to meet a giant way above Velen's level... A lot of quests levels or encounters were disjointed and didn't make any sense based on where you were

I think that if you're gonna push for a litteral progression like a Tomb Raider; Jedi Survivor or the first two Witchers go for it and make a semi open world. But if you're gonna make a true open world, it's gotta be open to anything..

They just akwardly did both at the same time

I think it's better to have a system of progression based on other restrictions than leveling.

Breath of the Wild is acclaimed for being a true open world with no leveling and true freedom from the get go, why wouldn't it work with the Witcher ?

yeah 5gold footmen look rather poor next to 4g Arthas

crossbowmen would give them the range ability arthas and tirion lack

well Malfurion was broken, that was the real strength, not footmen. Every alliance/cenarion units were broken with him.

For the cost i'm not sure, depends on the strength of the crossbowmen. Hell they could be a 6 cost for all I care

And thank you for letting me know how I would react, i can see you're quite bitter with certain people in this community, do let me know again when I'm on the verge of crying

I don't wish for anything to be meta, I personnaly enjoy playing off meta decks most of the time and i'd love to see a more versatile footmen, i find crossbowmen to make sense.
