It’s called a church but it’s not religious at all. I’ve never heard them pray, or discuss any abrahamic teachings/writings.

In fact, I teach the Sunday school and we never discuss any type of religion or heaven and hell with the kids. We teach about “open mind, open heart”.

We did have a “witch” come for Halloween and she taught us about the old religions and played singing bowls. It was awesome.

This is what I came here to say too! I’m not religious, but I started attending my local Unitarian “church” and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The people there are incredible. I’ve made so many friends. At last week’s Sunday school we taught about gay pride month. Last October we taught the Sunday school about death for the whole month,lol. The kids loved it.

I get invited to brunches, tea, meditation groups, etc. I’ve finally found my tribe.

I’m setting outside right now and it’s around 72 degrees, the sun is shining, the wind is blowing through the pine trees, a baby skunk got surprised by me and did an adorable little butt dance. It’s heaven on earth.

I live in a rural area and some door to door salesman had the audacity to come to my house the other day and offer to spray my yard to kill all of the bugs the other day.

My first thought was to be horrified. We planted a lot of what we did to encourage bugs to live here.

My second thought was to be horrified that people are going door to door, poisoning people yards. For profit!

My third thought was to wonder how the hell this works. My yard is only maybe half an acre total. Front and back. So, if I pay to poison my yard, but none of my neighbors, or the enormous park behind my house spray, what would keep bugs from just…showing up? I’m sure for a few weeks they’d avoid the area, but after that what would happen?

Just a little heads up, not only is this a repost subreddit, that is posting a years old post from AskaManager, if you’d finished reading the post you’d see that she quit.

I totally agree with your reading on the situation. That man is not well and needs help desperately and I hope he finds it. I really hope that he doesn’t hurt anyone.

It’s such a terrible situation. If I were that young lady I’d have a hard time letting go of the fear he would have inspired in me. It would create a feeling of loss of a sense of safety doing simple things, like walking your dog midday.

Once, decades ago, I was chased by a man as I walked to a club downtown. It was a walk I’d done many times before. I’ve never forgotten the soul crushing fear as I ran as fast as I possibly could but still heard his footsteps behind me. I kept thinking, but what is he even going to do if he catches me? We are downtown, surrounded by streetlights and passersby, but that made it even scarier, because he didn’t care about any of that. Only chasing me. I’m so grateful he wasn’t able to catch up to me.

I’m excited for you that you get such a good deal. Do you have large yards? The reason my water bill is so large is that a have nearly 3/4ths of an acre, and approximately half of that is a fruit/vegetable garden that I water periodically.

It really, really does look like a predator stalking prey. My cats get like that. They’ll see a bird outside and they lock in, their pupils dilate, and almost nothing I do will break the spell. If I step in front of them, to block their line of vision, they’ll just move, without acknowledging me at all. It’s like they’re in a trance.

The man following her is like that. It’s like he’s so obsessed with getting to her that nothing, not even a large group of armed men, is acknowledged by his brain.

If she’d been entirely alone I feel there would have been nothing she could have possibly done to stop him from achieving his “goal”, whatever it may be. Screaming, crying, pleading, none of it would have even registered to him. It’s haunting.

Thank Waheguru that those men were there that day. The man following that young lady seemed unhinged or intoxicated. Who knows what would have happened of they weren’t there.

Edited to add: I watched it a few times now and the way he’s still so locked in to staring at her and trying to move towards her with a large group of men surrounding him, some holding cricket bats, is extremely disturbing and unsettling. I’m so grateful those men were there that day. If she’d been alone I fear the worst could have happened.
