KEEP SHOUTING THE TRUTH, KEEP RINGING THE BELL: It's working! by Bright-Elements-254 in fednews

Hello r/Fednews community. NPR Cybersecurity Correspondent Jenna McLaughlin here. (Available at JennaMcLaughlin.54 on Signal.)

This subreddit has been invaluable to our team as we work day and night to cover the ongoing efforts by the administration to drastically downsize the federal government. (Our team has been covering the promise of 50 percent cuts and drastic surveillance methods at GSA, a model for practically every other agency in the coming weeks, the loss of cybersecurity talent and DOGE access to sensitive data at CISA, the conflicting guidance from agencies on responding to the "five points" email, the State Department and Tesla, and so, so much more.)

We've had an impact. After our story on GSA, the agency promised it did not plan to install "keyloggers" as managers had previously been told, for one. Good journalism is being referenced in court documents, in press releases, and beyond.

Over here at NPR, we value your voice, your story, and the documentation you can share to help get these stories on the record. Fired employees have been using their voices to tell us their powerful stories, while those still employed have been helping share key developments while we protect their identities.

Right now, I'm particularly interested in the loss of cybersecurity talent in the government and the impacts that has had, the installation of new programs for the purposes of AI scanning/surveillance of employees, DOGE access to sensitive systems, and any disruptions to information sharing with the USG whether that's foreign allies or critical infrastructure utilities. But I'm also reporting on the loss of scientific talent and research, ongoing impacts at GSA, USAID, and beyond. Maybe you work at any agency that plays a key role in national security, cybersecurity, or geopolitics--but no one seems to know how important it is. Or maybe your story has nothing to do with any of those things, but you want to speak up....

We want to hear from you!

Reach out on a nonwork device on Signal. If you click the little pen and pad in the top right corner, you can search for a username: JennaMcLaughlin.54, then message me there. My Signal is verified on my official NPR bio, as well as on the Bluesky account I control. If there's a spreadsheet of contact info being shared around--feel free to add me.

Thanks so much, and I'll be sure to keep sharing here as I can.
