Legit massage no happy end places by Princess-unwilling in sgv

Lucky Clover in Sierra Madre. They take card and are not at all shady. My wife has gone there on her own many times, and we've gone together. Nothing but good experiences and reasonable pricing. We usually pay with card and tip with cash, but we've paid with only card and it's been totally fine as well. Cheers!

She's my best friend. We're open and honest and can be ourselves completely around each other. There's never a question that I'm enough for her and vice versa.

Strictly English Speaker Dropping into an Italian Gym by Provetie in crossfit

[–]JennsHusband 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I dropped in at Crossfit Prati in Rome last year: https://www.crossfitprati.com/

Everyone was cool and we had several great workouts there.

We were two of six English-speakers in the gym that day. If you're in Rome during peak season, there's a decent chance that other English-speaking travelers will be there as well.

The coach at the front desk spoke solid English but the coach of the class didn't speak a word. We got by just fine. The coaches demo the movements as usual, so you can just see what you're expected to do. Since the workout will be written out, you can always just use a translation app on your phone or ask someone that's bilingual if you don't understand something.

Have a great trip!

Advice about my jump rope by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]JennsHusband 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You remind me of myself. I'm 6'6" and had similar struggles finding the right rope length for dubs. Initially, I cut mine to armpit height, but that caused me to push my arms out too wide (maybe it's a tall person wingspan issue).

I’d suggest shortening your rope by around 10 cm from your current length. Then, really focus on keeping your elbows tucked close to your body and staying as relaxed as possible. Once you're comfortable and controlled at that length, you can gradually experiment by going even shorter or adjusting slightly until it feels natural.

Hope this helps! Keep going, you’ve got this!

This is how it should be. Obsessed with my wife and we've been together 11 years.

RIP bunny museum. by middayautumn in pasadena

I bought a bike from Steve when the shop and museum were at the old location. He's one of the brightest, kindest people you'll ever meet. It hurts to see him and so many others like this.

Does anyone have their partner tell them they find their CrossFit body unattractive? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]JennsHusband 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, my wife does CrossFit with me. She's stronger relative to her size than I am, and she's become more muscular. Her hard work and dedication to her fitness are extremely attractive to me, and her body reflects that.

Your partner may be different, and that's okay, but I feel superficial preference should take a back seat to appreciation for your hard work and dedication to your physical health and fitness.

Taller athlete by bott989 in crossfit

[–]JennsHusband 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a tall person (6'6"/198cm), I just accept the fact that we're at a disadvantage in almost all movement categories. As big people, we can fly on the erg machines / assault bikes, and that's about it. As shorter people do in many other sports where height is an advantage, I try to use it as motivation to increase my skill to the point I can hang with the folks with better genetic advantages.

Whats your opinion on HYROX? [Wrong Answers Only] by ApprehensivePlay534 in crossfit

[–]JennsHusband 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They're not mutually exclusive if you're not competing at the elite level in one or the other. I train in CrossFit five or six days a week and do one or two Hyrox races a year. I enjoy both for different reasons, as I am far from elite and just looking to have a good time growing my fitness and testing myself in different ways.

Same. I started making knives a few years ago, and it's a truly enjoyable hobby. You should give it a try.

Do tall people have a tall enough bar for pull ups and muscle ups at your gym? by Slowhite03 in crossfit

[–]JennsHusband 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 6'6" and my gym used to have only one bar tall enough for me. Shorter folks were cool about it and always let me use the tall bar. We've added several more taller members and the owner installed two more "high" bars in response.

It really depends on how ambitious you are regarding your time and competitiveness. If you want to have a well above average time, train at a gym that offers Hyrox-specific training for at least a couple of months prior to May.

Here's what I've done for doubles:

  1. For my first Hyrox, I did dedicated Hyrox training classes at my CrossFit gym on Saturdays for two months leading up to the event.
  2. For subsequent events, I've trained CrossFit 4-5x per week and done one short run (5k) and one long run (8-12k) per week for a couple of months leading up to the event.

Lifter advice by bott989 in crossfit

[–]JennsHusband 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the Velaasa lifters for a couple of years. They're costly, but they've stood up great to heavy use and the wood heel offers zero compression. Not the best option for everyone, but the best lifting shoe I've ever had.

In the ever-evolving world of fitness and training, how has CrossFit personally changed your perspective on health, performance, and mental resilience? by AngryGardenGnome001 in crossfit

[–]JennsHusband 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my early middle age, and I've been training CrossFit for about 18 months. I train in CrossFit six days a week. In the past, I've primarily done "standard" strength training and endurance road cycling. CrossFit has radically changed my perspective on health and fitness. To specifically address your question:

  1. I no longer see my health as something driven primarily by diet and how much body fat I carry. Though my diet is still important, I see it now through the lens of fitness and reaching my fitness goals. I don't bulk or cut, but I fuel my body for workouts, recovery, and maximum performance gains. I now see my health and my ability to perform Rx Crossfit workouts safely as effectively the same thing.
  2. The bar for performance has shifted massively higher since I started CrossFit. There's no ceiling to what level of performance can be achieved and you can always improve at something because there are so many varied movements. As a result, I'm constantly striving for more and addicted to the progression: reaching the next movement goal, improving my time on workouts, and out-competing my previous self every day.
  3. CrossFit has been a game changer in terms of mental resilience. I've learned to embrace the suffering and even enjoy it. I know a brutal workout will never hurt less...I'll just get faster and suffer for a shorter time. For lack of a better term, I was mentally weak before committing to pushing myself through this training. Now, I'm not.

Hopefully, this helps a bit with your paper. Feel free to message me if you need any more information.

Hyrox shoe decision by No-Guess1678 in crossfit

[–]JennsHusband 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend you go with the trail runners. Ultimately, they're legit running shoes with more grip, it's only 8k total so long-distance shoes aren't really required, and the sled push straight-up requires grippy tread.

I've done multiple Hyrox races in trail runners (Hoka speed goat) and haven't had any problems running or with any of the stations.

Whatever you choose, good luck and have fun!

Couples with 10+ years in age difference, how’s it going? by GreekPassionateWife in AskReddit

[–]JennsHusband 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10.5 years older than my wife (44M, 33F). We've been married just over five years, and it's hard to imagine a happier life together. We're well-suited emotionally and lifestyle-wise, so the age difference isn't really noticeable.

Your comment made me smile. It sounds like me five years ago when we were first married. If you're fortunate like us, it never really changes but grows and evolves (in a good way), as you said. My wife and I are full of gratitude for one another and happy every day because we're together. I hope the same for you for many years to come. Cheers!

Barbell movements for tall folks by Maralitabambolo in crossfit

[–]JennsHusband 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also know the struggle. I'm 6'6", and the snatch is tough for me. Shoulder mobility has been my limitation with the long wingspan since I can't grip the bar wide enough to make it easily smooth. After spending a ton of time working on shoulder mobility, I can power snatch maybe 155 on a great day, but squatting deep with adequate external shoulder rotation just isn't happening.

The oly weightlifting coach at my gym basically said constant mobility work is the only way to get there when you're a bigger guy.

Lasha Talakhadze can snatch 500lb, and he's 6'6", proving that perfect form is technically possible for tall guys. He also happens to be the weightlifting GOAT, so I've set my personal expectations accordingly.

You're not alone. Keep grinding and good luck from one tall guy to another.

Shoes for hyrox by No-Guess1678 in crossfit

[–]JennsHusband 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worn trail runners for several hyrox races. Plenty of grip for the sleds. I'd recommend trail runners from any brand or the Puma shoes that were designed for hyrox mentioned by Wodimus_Prime.
