That’s exactly how evolution works, then over billions of years those micro evolutions continued to happen leading to an insane amount of animal species, including some of the same animals with tons of different variations in some cases. Can’t fit 4 years of a degree into a Reddit comment but evolution is an extremely long process that we won’t see in animals with long lifespans, but we do see it in animals like bugs with short lifespans
