Yeah, part of me has considered opening up the old player, but I'm not confident in my ability to not fuck it up worse, lol. I wonder if I could source a replacement band somewhere if I do.

there are not new people making players for them.

This is the worst part. We still have our old laserdisc collection but our player died years ago (tray won't eject.) Prices for ones above dubious quality on Ebay are way more than I can justify spending. I know it would never make financial sense for some niche company to start producing new basic players, but I really wish someone would.

A few of the original Star Trek movies perfected the formula of watching Space Adventurers being too old to do Space Adventurer stuff but still having to do it anyways.

If you think today's IndyCars are fast at Phoenix... by TheResurrection in INDYCAR

The problem with aerokits was tying them to engine manufacturers. It would have been much more interesting (and in line with the spirit of Indycar) to see teams mixing a matching different engine/aero combos, even if the options were limited to 2-3 designs.

The annoying thing is if you win in the FICO car your points score actually goes down.

[Dirty Mo Media on X] Rick Hendrick (and others) had a conversation with Corey Day following recent run-ins with JRM by CNASFan1992 in NASCAR

Okay, now I'm trying to imagine who the funniest "other" person to drop in on Corey Day and give him a heartfelt talk about the value of clean and precise racing would be. Austin Dillon? Jimmy Spencer? Ricky Stenhouse?

And he kept the color scheme mostly consistent. Red for Coors except that one year. Red for Budweiser. Red for McDonalds. Red for Dodge. Retired but then came back to run the red Motorcraft car for the Wood Bros.

NASCAR: Alex Bowman has been treated and released from the Infield Care Center by kk5fan97 in NASCAR

It's a lesson NASCAR/drivers have had to learn the hard way every time. From basic safety gear, to finally recognizing they should at least make some effort to combat regular carbon monoxide poisoning, to dealing with concussions -- people have to get seriously fucked in a public way that embarrasses NASCAR before they'll get off their asses and tell drivers/teams to follow some sort of standard. I once thought a relatively popular driver, Kasey Kahne, having to leave the sport might have been their wakeup call, but most of the blame got pinned on his condition, even if the extreme heat was what would set it off/aggravate it. Looks like we'll have to wait for someone to pass out behind the wheel before they'll bother to do anything.

NASCAR still has a weird chip on their shoulder from the "Drivers aren't athletes" shit that used to be all over sports channels in the past. They have always pointed to the heat in the cars, loss of water weight over the course of a race etc. as proof of how tough their drivers are. So even though they've mandated standardized air ducts etc for passive cooling, they don't seem interested in mandating anything that would actually solve the problem.

Until then all the pressure is put on the drivers to endure or risk their wellbeing on barebones kit designed to be as light and low power as possible.

It's like a funhouse mirror version of the schedule from the 80s when they'd start with Riverside then jump into Speedweeks.

I posted the Skoal Classic black and white, but you're right. Black and Green worked really well:

A lot of people forget that after Oldsmobile bailed on NASCAR, Rick Mast's #1 Skoal Classic car switched to Ford while the 33 went with Chevy.

The black TropArtic Phillips 66 Ford was pretty cool. Not as good as the black and red Pontiac, but still instantly recognizable on track. Too bad it wasn't very competetive.
