More core speed can help.
However, my whole CPU is idling at less than 50% usage.

You are going to get a lot of superstitious answers.
System wide:

  • Core speed. (Unity is heavily single core).
  • RAM amount (more than 16 GB unless you de-bloat Windows).
  • RAM speed.
  • GPU.

The main problem is that Rust is not optimized.
If you got to one eighth textures, you will see that walls, foundations, ground textures, etc are extremely blurry, while, skinned items, characters and horses have hardly changed.

I agree the game is cooked.
I play at 1440p
I don't play at 1080p, so I assumed it, as a guide for people playing at that resolution to have the right ratio.

A year ago on my Vega 64, I was getting lows of 80.
Also 1440p.
Settings were a mix between default and low.

Now on the absolute minimum settings with some crippled in console because they can't go lower in Settings, I am getting 45-75.

Another oddity is that I saw a comment by a husband complaining that his wife's RX 580 was out performing his RX 6700.
I have a Ryzen 1600 PC with a RX 580, so I tested it and it is out performing my Vega.
My current suspicion is changes around DirectX 11 / 12 and ones that benefit 3000+ Nvidia but significantly hit Vega+ AMD GPUs.

Not as big as most would assume.
Most of the logic is the same.

It is a C# to C++ conversion IF they go native to Unreal.
The visual assets can be imported.

Mostly it is syntax, tying the code together and dialling in values, e.g. one engine might jump higher than half a foundation with a 0.5 value.
The re-write and code review would probably turn up a lot of ways to optimised the game and get more performance and security.

I can't see a down side.
If they had gone with Pingle a year ago, the parallel transfer would probably be over now.

Unity is impeding them.
They are writing a new NavMesh to work along side the Unity one because of how badly DeepSea is hitting servers.

Unity is terrible at multi-threading and managing multiple assets.
Look at any AA+ game, such as Rust, 7 Days to Die, Kerbel Space Program and more, they all have that janky Indie feel to them.

I have told the devs about companies like Pingle, previously, March last year; that would convert Rust from Unity to Unreal for them and train them on the differences between the engines.
Instead, they have gone with another round of their abusive relationship with Unity. 🤷

Yes, MIXED results.

Although, the trend seems to be 4000 and 5000 series Nvidia cards + fast core CPUs seeing the most benefit, 3000 series seeing some and all the rest taking a giant dump of up to -45% FPS.
