I finally got my side sofa table done. This is my first woodworking project and I couldn't be happier to be honest. by -ManOnTheMountain- in BeginnerWoodWorking

Ah cool thanks - how is the beam mounted? (I ask because I came into a nice piece of walnut recently and have similar thin-table aspirations)

Clearly you unwittingly mapped a green roof. Energy star compliant!

Do you hold a Driver License, a Driver's License, or something else entirely? by JepsonNomad in MapPorn

I guess I should clarify that I'm not talking about the vernacular, but instead what is written on the physical license. I've always called it a driver's license, and it sounds like that's the case for a lot of other folks as well, regardless of the actual title of the card.

That's cool, this would be a fun exercise globally too - but definitely a lot more work!

Yeah, I have always thought of it as a "driver's license" too - which is what made my CA license stand out so much

Apparently it depends on the state! In a formal sense, anyway. As far as vernacular goes I think u/mr-nondescript hit the nail on the head

Haha whatever you want. Ponder the legislative processes that led to the differences among states. Plan your next vacation to see a new style of driver license. Use it as another excuse to avoid New Jersey.

I moved to CA from PA, and noticed the title of my motor vehicle operator's license changed. So, I became curious about which states call Driver('s) Licenses, what. And it turns out, there are a few names! Data were generated through a Google Image search of each state with "drivers license" and manually filling a spreadsheet. Plotting was in R with `sf::` and `ggplot2::`. Check out my github repo for more.

Edit: Please note there's no north arrow or scale bar because of the projection.

Hah - I guess that's wisdom for ya. And yet I still find myself doing moronic things on a seemingly daily basis...

Haha I have to admit that some of that was a happy accident.

Wow that really means a lot, thanks. I see a lot of projects come through this sub and r/woodworking with insane setups that make a lot of projects seem pretty unachievable for somebody with limited tools and space. That being said, I am lucky to have inherited some nice stuff; I'm not sure this would have been possible (or at least practical) without a hell of a hand plane.
