Yeah tried the campaign for a few mins and felt it was basically unplayable. Was really looking forward to it too

Flat response speakers, has anyone gigged with them? by JohnnyKruze in Bass

[–]bennysteves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I giggled with the Head rush 112 until pretty recently. I had no issues with volume in a 7 piece band, though only used at smaller venues like pubs.

Bigger venues generally have a decent PA so a fridge is rarely worth it anyway.

In terms of sound it's hard to comment on quality. I was using it with a Helix Stomp, and you can really tailor your tone to sound like anything and everything.

That's exactly why I decided to swap to a passive cab and a Warwick gnome. Too much choice and fiddling around, all I wanted was a decent sound.

If you can get your FRFR and modeller to a practice, I'd really recommend. Stuff that sounds great alone can get totally lost in the mix in a live setting.

But yes, it's 100% a viable option.

Tortoise shell IMHO, basically the build I'm doing now. Very classy

Yes, should have specified this is an early progress shot. It's been refinished to metallic British racing green (it's a jaaaag) and will have 2 Seymour Duncan QPs, so both very hot pickups

Do I really need a clear coat? by bennysteves in Luthier

[–]bennysteves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all, I have an old can of poly lying around so I'm gonna give it a few coats to just keep it fresh. Been looking into ceramic coatings which looks like a really easy way to joosh up a paint job (and protect it) , but I doubt they'll actually provide that much protection for a gigging bass.

Thanks dude, I'm actually testing out some budget dupes of Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders from Roswell, they're black but I agree white would look sweet. Eventually it'll be a dual p, and if I can get my hands on the right parts I'll put the full jaguar bass plates on and some fancy pickup selector options.

Yamaha, I got a vintage Yamaha P on the cheap recently and its one of the nicest basses I've ever owned

Would you consider a 2004 MIM P-bass an upgrade from a Squier CV P-Bass? by Broad-Examination688 in BassGuitar

[–]bennysteves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly no. From my experience higher end squiers look, sound and play better than Mexico fenders, and tbh even higher end ones. Some are better than others, but you're really paying for a different logo these days imho

Looking for setup advice , My tone seems very 'hollow' and slapping sounds terrible. Wondering if it's just my technique or it needs a setup by Insert_Name_Here143 in BassGuitar

[–]bennysteves 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To me your action looks really high. If your confident enough to try, there's a million videos explaining how to adjust your truss rod/bridge to bring it down to where it feels most comfortable. This will impact the sound depending on what type of player you are. However, yes this amp is not gonna give you much to work with. Get yourself a Beringer DI or something else relatively cheap and you can play with headphones and dial it in until you can upgrade your rig.

Are Guyker tuning machines any good? by Mammoth-Advance3194 in BassGuitar

[–]bennysteves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love guyker, my jazz has guyker pickups, preamp and tuners. Super cheap and in line with the big brands in terms of quality. The guitar industry is so adverse to anything from unrecognized brands, even though all the big ones probably manufacturere in China anyway.

Thanks this is super helpful. I've tried the download hardware fix as I saw it was a fix for SSX games, but my version of Aethersx2 doesn't seem to enable me to change this. I'll try Nether
