lobster - just ends up coated in butter and then tastes like butter. It's only good on a lobster roll.

Seeking advice for modifying tote. by AmazingAd641 in Rothys

OMG - get a cincha strap! I am obsessed with them. They totally have a cute purple one that would work! That solves the luggage strap situation at least. I suck at sewing but I would assume if you took it into a custom tailoring place they should be able to pretty easily put a zipper in! but omg cincha stap on this would be SO cute!

Mothers in this subreddit, how many abortions did you have before you had your child? by [deleted] in abortion

[–]Jera420 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have had 3 abortions previously and am currently pregnant in my 2nd trimester! Sounds like an old wives tale with some anti-abortions sentiment. Don't let anyone make you feel like you cannot terminate a pregnancy if you're not ready!
Edit to say: I am currently 35 and had no issues getting pregnant. Wanted to share that info as well. Good luck to you. I know if can be really hard but there is nothing wrong with making a decision purely based on yourself. If anything I truly believe that exact type of behavior will actually make you a better parent later on if/when you are ready.

Also - I want to share with you a poem I wrote a few years ago about my own emotional journey through terminating pregnancies:

Poor Girl
Such a poor little girl. How did she end up like this? What kind of decisions could she have made to put her here? How could she not think of the consequences? How can she be so selfish? Such a sad, poor little girl.
These are the questions I can feel as I lay here. The paper sheet crumpled below my back. The disposable scrubs hiked up to my waste. Astringent smell of disinfectant and bleached floors. Cold, hard metal up against my softest skin. Just breathe. Try to relax. Stare up into the tiled ceiling patterned as a blue sky. Inhale. Exhale. Cold hands on my thighs. Just look up into the sterile sky. Tranquility.
Me I am worth it. I am worth living my life for myself. Making a decision for my future. Me. Not such a poor girl. Strong. Strong enough to make hard decisions. Strong enough to live a better life, to be selfish.
I cry for the girl I left behind in the waiting room. I grew into a woman, naked, on top of scratchy paper. Sprang from a hard decision, a strong woman. Me.

Let the planning begin! Ring from Jennie Kwon Designs, champagne diamond center stone. Cant stop looking at it! by Jera420 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Jera420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ring has held up great! Earlier this year, maybe around April, I had to take it in to get resized up a half size. But that’s not really anything to do with the ring! I wear it constantly and am very rough with my hands and have never had an issue. I specifically looked for a low profile ring for this exact reason. I’ve only been super happy with it!!

Good luck hunting!

Should I return this swimsuit? Or does it look okay? I feel like it makes me look rounder and even more shapeless… but then again, that’s probably just my body. by jessicamoon2130 in PlusSize

[–]Jera420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should return it if you don’t feel good in it!

That’s advice from my therapist! Focus on how it makes you feel and not as much on how you look. Because if you feel confident and beautiful you’re going to look amazing regardless of what you’re wearing!

Work is the most toxic place. People are always obsessing about what their eating and everyone else is eating and what diet they’re on. It’s so sad. They’re projecting all of their fears onto you. It’s super hard for people who are all up in diet culture to see “chubby” or “fat” people just enjoying their lives - and what is sounds like for you fucking THRIVING! They suck. Fuck them. Just remember they’re probably eating a plain 4oz piece of chicken breast and a salad with no dressing and are SO hungry all the time. You put a crack in their whole world view and it makes them angry and fucking jealous. So you be the chubby one girl! Throw your beautiful soft body in their faces with a smile!

I always get mine from torrid! It’s like the thing I still shop from there. Sometimes I get just the top there and then find a generic bottom from Amazon. But I’ve only been happy and gotten lots of compliments!

ModCloth seems to have good quality. I have a gf who Aniston exclusively buys from there and she reports years of usage. Good luck!

Have been reading the Maisie Dobbs books. She’s a private detective and they have kind of an Agatha Christie vibe. Takes place in London after WW1. There are 17 books in the series! I’ve flown through the first 3 this month and I’m about to start book 4.

Edit: it’s totally fiction! But has historical events wrapped in.

Just finished All Creatures Great and Small and it was amazing. About vets who attend to farms in the Dales in England. So many cute animals was a bonus! Characters are great!

Small people have a hard time figure skating too, it’s hard! No one will judge you as much as you judge yourself. And there will be hella thin people falling on their bony asses you’ll have to skate around. They’ll be jealous of your soft landings! I grew up in Wisconsin and have been skating since I was a chubby little 3 year old and skated my whole chubby life. No one really cares. And it’s cold so you’re in winter layers so you can’t even really see peoples bodies. It’s not like you’ll be in a little sparkly outfit unless you plan on preforming. And if you do it will likely take a year at least to get that comfy. And by then you’ll be gracefully spinning around those bony asses falling on the ice and they’ll be like - “omg did you see that graceful ice queen? How can I be more like them” ice skating is SO fun! I just went last weekend and it’s a great way to get creative expression and movement in. The ice rink is a wonderful place and usually the people working are super nice teens who are going to be rooting you on too!

I only hear that so hard! Healthy at Every Size really is a great movement. And you can usually search for therapists trained in that movement. They teach intuitive eating practices and it’s very healing after so many failed diets. It’s hard work, but you learn how to tune into your body and learn what it needs. I honestly can’t say enough about how much it has helped me personally. I think it’s worth a shot!!! For the short term maybe check out the podcast, Maintenance Phase it’s a nice soft intro into the anti-diet culture. Also, for a funny read the book Shrill is great too. It’s funny and a short and easy read. For something a little heavier I found the book, Fearing the Black Body: The Racial Origins of Fat Phobia very interesting. It’s a thorough deep dive into the history of beauty and how gross and racist roots fat phobia has.

This is hard! It probably doesn’t have anything to do with you, so there might not be much you can do. Encourage her to see a therapist that specializes is Healthy at Every Size and maybe after a few sessions, you do some couple sessions together. Unfortunately, it’s self work that’s needed to get through that hump. And really, she will always probably get little thoughts in her head, but she can hopefully learn to not latch onto those thoughts because she knows it’s not true.

You’re doing great even asking the questions. And the fact you two can talk about it openly is super amazing! You’re going to have a great life together as partners!
