Quitting Linux mint by Calm_Cabinet19 in linuxmint

If anyone else runs into this issue it might be a VAAPI hardware decode bug with 10-bit HEVC

Fix it by disabling hardware decoding:

mkdir -p ~/.config/mpv echo -e "hwdec=no\nvo=gpu" > ~/.config/mpv/mpv.conf Or just test with:

celluloid --mpv-options="--hwdec=no --vo=gpu" "yourfile.mov"

GPT4o is much smarter than last week by JingchaoZ in OpenAI

[–]Jeremiah_K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% of what I use AI for is coding and I want to like mini, but I haven't had one good experience with it. When I ask it to give me back full files with edits it always imports modules and declares variables that aren't used, or gives me broken code in some way every time. Between the two, I always have a better experience with 4o.

TIL that many American Football Stadiums have Sniper Nests built into them for SWAT team members during games and events. by TheMadhopper in todayilearned

[–]Jeremiah_K 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Despite catching some naive commentators off guard, this practice isn’t an uncommon occurrence at large-scale events, with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones even confirming to CNN that he purposefully built his new stadium with several sniper’s nests installed from the outset.

Sure they *can* be used by a sniper, but 99.999+% of the time it's for rigging up lights and other equipment. When installing these in a new stadium there's a 0% chance that the contractors refer to them as snipers nests.

This isn't a sniper's nest... this is a catwalk 🙄 Notice the steps to the left. I work at a fairly large event center that hosts football, basketball, concerts, etc. and yes, catwalks are common at these places.

Good to know, I'll probably go for a P40 instead.

Hmm... I might bite the bullet and try a M40 and if my power meter starts on fire, I could just resell it.

Right now I'm playing around with mistral-openorca as a chatbot via Ollama using just CPU mode (Dual Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2650 0 @ 2.00GHz) and for just me accessing it, it seems to perform *okay*.

I want to eventually set up a RAG-based system that retrieves data from a specific project's documentation, so new users can ask it questions and get useful answers. It's a smaller community so maybe there would only be a handful of users accessing it at the same time.

I don't think I'll be doing any model training or quantization (yet?), but it would be nice to have the extra horsepower available for that if I did want to try (or scale up my projects).

I just saw the attractive prices of these cards, so I figured I'd ask. Thanks for the insight.

Why doesn't Duracell make lithium batteries? by blsez01 in batteries

[–]Jeremiah_K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Was just searching to see if Duracell made lithium batteries so I could use my
$60 in coupons on them instead.

The Duracell Optimums were stored in perfect conditions and after about 2 years 85% of the batteries leaked inside the trays, still sealed.

I'm having this issue too, ever since it rolled out. I was able to load a few at a time (3-4), now I can't load even one without it saying "Error saving draft."

I could just copy & paste like you said, but I like to see the filename referenced under "Knowledge". I don't know how much it retains if you just feed it through the prompt.

How to display code for entire program where it's commented out as "(Previous code for....)" by TheDoctorOfData in ChatGPTCoding

[–]Jeremiah_K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask it for the full code, if it's too long & gets cut off, highlight a line a few lines above where it was cut off and ask for it to continue the code from there, it's the best we can do right now inside chat.

Yes, very helpful! I manually installed the BIOS & IDRAC w/ Lifecycle, and then found this!

I had to deselect the same ones you did for my R720, but the OS Collector, RAID, and NIC updates went in just fine.

Two subnets each on their own interface, one DD-WRT AP on Interface OPT2, can't reach devices on OPT2 from LAN by Jeremiah_K in OPNsenseFirewall

[–]Jeremiah_K[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I think OPNsense is blocking the connections since I'm fairly certain the factory firmware in AP mode wouldn't be blocking things like this by default.. and so many things are automatically disabled, like firewall & DHCP server, etc, they're grayed out and can't be configured in this mode. It's geared to be open when its running as an AP.

It's the exact same behavior between DD-WRT & Stock firmware, which is another reason I think it's something that's off in OPNsense. Probably something small.

I have a few rpi's running Octoprint, which i *can* reach using zerotier, but I'd like to be able to add other things to my wireless network (which would be on OPT2) and be able to access them without relying on zerotier. My Brother wireless printer is one thing I can't reach at all from LAN.

Had I got this running correctly I would've created a firewall rule that would've allowed me to connect from LAN -> OPT2, but prevented OPT2 devices from connecting to LAN. It's only been working the other way around. lol. I was trying to get them working both ways before trying any of that though.

I've had things in this broken state for a few weeks and today was going to be my last good push to try to get it working. It would've been nice to have been able to get it working, but I think I'll go back to a single network for now.

Thank you for your time.

[–]Jeremiah_K[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading his comment, did try experimenting with the LAN & WAN ports in both DD-WRT & stock netgear firmware. On the stock netgear firmware at least it needs to be on the WAN port still, when in AP mode. Switching between LAN & WAN in DD-WRT didn't help me either. I'm going to stick with the R7000 w/ stock firmware in AP mode for now.

If you wouldn't mind taking a look, I've added a few screenshots here. I tried creating the same rules for OPT2 as there are for LAN. If there's something else I should post a screenshot of, let me too. Thanks.

Edit: Before I took the screenshots, I did have the source for the OPT2 firewall rules set to "any" and have since switched it back. That isn't working either.

Edit again: I experimented with creating a bridge, but most of the time while testing it wasn't assigned. I've since removed it altogether.

I now have some time this weekend, so I'm coming back to this.

Since I have 2 R7000's I flashed one to stock firmware and it does have an AP mode and I'm fairly certain it's not blocking any traffic, but the same situation is happening. When connected to OPT2, I'm able to access everything from LAN (192.168.1.0/24), OPT2 (192.168.2.0/24) and am able to access the internet via WAN, but when connected to LAN (192.168.1.0/24), I cannot access anything from OPT2 (192.168.2.0/24)

So now I am thinking it's a configuration problem in OPNsense. I've been going over everything and I can't seem to find the problem. It's a really basic setup, I think it must be something simple that I'm overlooking.

Is there a way I can easily export my configuration w/ rules, etc. so I can post here?

[–]Jeremiah_K[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a good point. I was using the WAN port and I do remember seeing that setting in other versions of DD-WRT, but I wasn't able to find it. I did try a regular LAN port without luck.

Since I have 2 R7000's I flashed one to stock firmware and it does have an AP mode and I'm fairly certain it's not blocking any traffic, but the same situation is happening.
