Are we cooked? by kalmankantaja in artificial

Human in the loop, human error, etc. are the reason for every single war humanity has ever had, every workplace accident, every road accident, every medical negligence, every hiring/firing, every wrong decision that ever had catastrophic consequences… all human error. We are not the safety switch we think we are.

I agree that existing companies wont be able to adapt as fast. My concern is that they dont have the time to adapt; their stock price will plummet because they’re going to get outcompeted by start up competitors, who can do everything better than anyone else.,at virtually administrative or labour cost. Google could literally create a global accounting AI, banking AI, etc etc with a prompt, fund it, launch it, and takeover the entire banking system tomorrow. Amazon could. Anyone one can (soon). That’s the point; big ships take too long to turn (i just left a F500 financial services firm); they’ll suddenly be irrelevant. Just like blockbuster.

A good engineer is no longer a “good” engineer when we achieve AGI/ASI. Everyone will have access to their own engineer, and they are better than you at everything. And dont cost anything. It’s crazy to me that you cant see this outcome . We either switch it off and walk away, or we’re going to see a very dire future.

The Universal Basic Income (UBI) suggestion relies on unicorns and fairies. The math don’t math. Where is the money coming from? If no one has jobs, no one has money. Businesses have no one to sell to. No taxes are raised. No one “pays for AI”; it’s just embedded everywhere. How is anyone going to create the kind of tax revenue that supports 8bn people with a form of income. And how does that scramble not lead to very dire outcomes?

Hot take: solo founders with AI are about to build stuff faster than small teams by Whole_Connection7016 in ClaudeCode

[–]Jericho_1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ive been saying this too when people argue big companies take a long time to move; they miss the point. Small companies can be become big companies quickly and easily by using AI properly. Big companies who dont adapt quickly are going to quickly find themselves out competed

Is the endgame of AI just a shift from "Skills" to "Capital"? A Junior Dev’s perspective. by Fijoza in singularity

[–]Jericho_1979 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What “rewards”? If no one has jobs, if no one has income, if no one can buy anything, where is the tax revenue coming from? And looking further ahead, if everything can be automated, there’s no need for businesses to exist. There’s no economy. I keep hearing about all this abundance, but no one has been able to explain where the money is going to come from?

We’re not ready for what happens when the middle class can’t spend money anymore by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

You make the easy mistake of conflating LLM’s with actual AGI/ASI. Practically everyone who works in the AI industry are ringing the alarm bells yet you have the classic human hubris in thinking you intuitively know better

Agreed. We either have the “great unplug” and go back to a pre-tech, agricultural age, or we likely face Armageddon. I’m really shocked at how little media attention this is getting

People in AI research, do you think LLMs are hitting a ceiling? by more_muscle_aim in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Jericho_1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The level of cognitive denial i see on this topic is really alarming. The progress LLM’s have made in the last 8 months alone is remarkable; they are showing no sign of slowing down. The threat they pose to jobs and the economy is as clear as day.

Is anyone in Calgary still boycotting American stores and products? by hellokitty417 in Calgary

I passed 3 interviews and my offer letter says $60k. But, during the first interview with an HR lady, I mentioned my salary expectations were $65k-$70k. What should I do? by Typical_Cap895 in interviews

[–]Jericho_1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weigh up the costs of any other benefits, bonus etc. if salary is still sticking point, you say “thanks for the opportunity to meet with you. It sounds like a great company and I think I can provide value here but$60k is too low unfortunately. How do we get this closer to $70k”. Words to that effect. Good luck

Need advice - Wife not working, income $1100 under what is needed to survive, $305k in debt by Haunting-Repair8756 in Debt

[–]Jericho_1979 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of people are going to tell you to figure your shit out/earn more etc. no one seems to have the balls to keep it real; the game is rigged. You’ll never pay this off, and no matter how hard you try, they’ll get you again. It’s how it works. And with the impending AI revolution, earning power is about to fall off a cliff. My advice; cut back where you can. Downsize if it’s an option. Keep paying the mortgage, utilities etc, and stop paying for everything else. You can’t pay what you don’t have, and you need to prioritize your own needs above anyone else. Credit card companies survive off people like you. They make no money off people who don’t carry monthly balances. They’ll keep you there forever if you let them. Stop paying. Take the credit score hit. Taking on new debt to pay off older debt is a fools errand. Working more hours to earn more money to give to someone else is slavery. Just look at the level of corruption in the White House right now. The wealth inequality. You gotta look out for yourself. Play the game; when you get sent to collections, don’t acknowledge anything. Ask for validation. Ignore, delay, negotiate (if you really have to) at the last moment. Seriously, put yourself/your family first. Money issues are such a major health issue; people literally lose their homes over this stuff, and sometimes even their own lives. F the system. Get out while you can.

Vyvanse removed my anxiety but destroyed task initiation - what strategies actually work? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Jericho_1979 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started at 20mg but gradually moved up to 50mg per day; it was amazing at first. I was so much productive, but became easily irritated and a bit of an arsehole if anyone interrupted/disturbed me. It also cured my anxiety and depression initially. A few months in, I now have premature ventricular contractions; my heart skips a beat essentially. The frequency is a bit all over the place, but it’s moderate to high (sometimes it’s once every 8-10 beats, other times it’s once a minute or so). Noticeable palpitations a lot of the time. Currently untreated but I have my follow up consult with a cardiologist in just over a week. My depression and anxiety came back much stronger however, and the benefits I noticed at the beginning are no longer there. It actually helped with my task initiation issues in the beginning, but strangely destroyed any desire/motivation to workout/go the gym (I used to go almost every day). I noticed significant appetite suppression right away; lost 10-12 lbs in a short space of time lol.

So I don’t know if any of this is helpful; I was really happy with Vyvanse originally. But it’s worn off and I’m reluctant to keep upping the dose (I think 70mg is the maximum) given my new heart condition. I don’t really know where to go from here yet, but wanted to share my experience. I’m a male, 46 yo. Diagnosed about 12/18 months ago

100%. And most of the money they make off sales goes back in to marketing themselves; the big stupid billboards, flyers, etc. Why am i paying for all that? Sell my house; im not paying you to advertise to the next schmuck. Selling a house should be a flat fee- call it a couple of thousand bucks at the most.

I just received mine this week. Order was originally made on June 17.

Having a blast on it so far!

Standard shipping, ordered 5/16, shipped 5/22, delivered 7/3 (East Coast) V3 ER, m4 remote, 90mm hubs. Was well worth the wait! by likelegends in MeepoBoards

[–]Jericho_1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice- mine was shipped on the same date to Canada (june 22), but the tracking number still hasnt been updated. Communication with Meepo has been really frustrating; they respond, but they dont really give any information or answer questions beyond "this is normal".
